How Weather Affects 2025 Masters Odds: Watch for Round 2 Rain

Outside of Friday's Round 2, the weather looks great for the 2025 Masters. Rains could stick around and drastically change the course compared to the rest of the week.

Golf bettors have their eyes on the skies above Augusta National, trying to figure out how spring weather will impact their Masters predictions.

Masters 2025 weather conditions

The extended forecast for Augusta National looks great compared to past years. The weather for the 2025 Masters calls for plenty of fun in the sun.

Round 1: Thursday

Thursday’s opening round will be met with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s, climbing to the low-70s later in the afternoon. Humidity won’t be a factor, and winds will top out at 9 mph, blowing southwest.

Round 2: Friday

There could be rain overnight Friday, and that wet weather could extend into the day. Weather models are split on just how long the rain will continue. Some forecasts call for those showers to end before the first groups start Round 2. Others predict on-and-off rain on Friday. Rain will make the course softer and the fairways play longer, with greens running slower and more forgiving for approach shots.

Some forecasts call for afternoon sun and temperatures in the high-60s to help dry up Augusta, so keep an eye on Friday’s updated forecast and which players tee off early (those impacted most by rains).

Winds will be stronger on Friday with 9 mph gusts in the morning getting up to 25 mph blowing west/northwest after lunch. All this considered, Augusta National will change a lot throughout Round 2.

Round 3: Saturday

If the forecast holds up, Moving Day will be played in perfect conditions. Weather models call for partly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-60s and northwest winds no stronger than 9 mph.

Round 4: Sunday

The fourth and final round of the 2025 Masters is expected to see an identical forecast, with temperatures in the mid-60s, sunny skies, and barely a breeze.

How does the weather affect Masters betting?

Softer fairways

When dry, the spring track at Augusta National's turf is as tender as an airport tarmac. That means extra yards for those big hitters off the tee box. However, cooler temperatures and rain early in the week - as well as Friday's Round 2 - could soften up this hallowed track.

While Augusta National drains well, the fairways will be softer if rains stick around on Friday. That means less length off the tee box but more forgiveness in terms of accuracy, as wayward tee shots won't roll into the rough.

That puts an emphasis on second-shot power and approach when it comes to longer Par-5 holes. Cooler temperatures could keep things soft for the weekend rounds.

Stick the landing

Second shots and approach shots are always tricky at Augusta National but the course should play nice. Practice rounds were cancelled Monday with thunderstorms in the area, which will clear out before Thursday. Friday's Round 2 rain and the cooler climate allow balls to stick better.

The subtle slopes and undulations of Augusta National won't be as slick as past tournaments played in hotter temperatures, so holes like No. 12 Golden Bell, No. 15 Firethorn, and No. 16 Redbud don't hold the same danger of running harder approach shots into the drink.

It's always smart to back golfers with maximum control on their second and approach shots, but those skill sets could have more wiggle room in the opening round of the 2025 Masters.

Not easy being greens

If August National is known for anything, it’s the greens and the challenge the grounds crew lays down every spring. Even during the pandemic-displaced 2020 Masters, state-of-the-art turf management systems allowed the November greens to play closer to their April form.

Even with the rain, the SubAir system-controlled greens at Augusta are regulated and maintained at a level usually reserved for museum masterpieces, so don’t bank on them slowing up much.

Leaning on the best players with a putter is never a bad golf betting strategy, regardless of the event, but finding a short-game combo of pinpoint approach and measured putting is a smart way to cash in those Masters wagers.
