The prestigious Grand National Handicap is set for Saturday at historic Aintree with 34 horses lining up to test their mettle over 4 1/4 miles and 30 fences. There is perhaps no more famous steeplechase race in the world, and maybe none more demanding.
Last year's winner — Corach Rambler — is the 5-1 morning-line favorite, but he totes 15 additional pounds compared to 2023's Grand National. I Am Maximus is seen as the main danger to the favorite at 6-1.
I've carefully combed through the field of jumpers and I'm ready to share my free betting picks and Grand National predictions for Saturday, April 13.

Odds as of 4-11-2024.
No. 26 Meetingofthewaters (7-1) is one of eight runners for accomplished trainer Willie Mullins in the Grand National, and the one that looks most likely to win it.
Meetingofthewaters recorded the best finish of seven runners who prepped for the Grand National in the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham, taking third in the 3 1/8-mile event. It was a good recovery after he unseated the rider in his previous race. Prior to that incident, Meetingofthewaters won two straight heats on soft ground by open lengths.
With the Aintree course expected to be wet and this seven-year-old son of Court Cave getting in light at 148 pounds, there's a lot to like about this runner's chances with David Mullins aboard.
No. 25 Limerick Lace (15-1) is one of only two mares competing in this race (No. 30 Galia Des Liteaux is the other). History says a mare winning this race is possible, as it's been done 13 times, but it hasn't happened since 1951. Purely from a past performances standpoint, Limerick Lace has a case in the 2024 Grand National, and at solid odds to boot.
The daughter of Walk in the Park compiled a 7: 4-2-1 record last year, taking second in two races vs. open company and closing out the campaign with runaway victories in her last two tries vs. female rivals. She came back off the bench with a solid score in a Grade II stakes at Cheltenham.
Limerick Lace will be tested for distance but the price appeals, and jockey Mark Walsh jumped off the top pick in order to ride this mare.
Best bet: $5 exacta box 25/26, $5 win 26, $5 place 25 ($20)
In order to hit the exacta box, the No. 25 and No. 26 will have to finish first and second in either order. The win wager will only pay out if No. 26 crosses the wire first. The place wager will pay out as long as No. 25 finishes in the Top 4. The rules for place wagers overseas work differently from America, where place only pays down to second.
