The Super Bowl helped spur $67.1 million of gross revenue for Bay State sports betting operators during February, leading to a 29% year-over-year increase through the first two months of 2025.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported a monthly handle of $628.2 million, a 15.8% rise from February 2024. Massachusetts’ bettors completed football season with the sixth consecutive month of wagers totaling more than $600 million.
Online and retail sportsbooks hauled in more than $60 million in gross revenue for the fourth time in six months, and February’s profits were up 24.6% from the previous year’s Super Bowl month. The Philadelphia Eagles' defeat of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX led to operator-friendly results around the U.S.
In the two years of online sports betting, the NFL’s premier wagering event has produced more than $1.1 billion in handle and $120.9 million in gross revenue.
Double-digit hold
February’s 10.7% hold marked the third double-digit win rate in the last four months, but it was down from January’s impressive 12.6% hold. That also led to a 30% month-over-month revenue drop from January’s record of $96.4 million.
Still, the Bay State filled its coffers with $13.1 million a month after bringing in $18.7 million in tax revenue. The sportsbooks’ adjusted revenue reached $65.6 million in February, the fifth-highest total ever in Massachusetts.
FanDuel’s records high hold

DraftKings | $317 million | $36.8 million |
FanDuel | $167.2 million | $19.6 million |
BetMGM | $54.5 million | $4.8 million |

ESPN BET | $22 million | $1.6 million |
Caesars | $21.1 million | $639,848 |
Bally Bet | $3.8 million | $286,550 |
Online sports betting in Massachusetts accounted for $618.6 million of the total amount wagered in February.
DraftKings continued its domination in the Bay State with a $317-million handle. An 11.6% hold led to $36.8 million in gross revenue, running the year-to-date total to nearly $49 million.
FanDuel generated $167.2 million and enjoyed a slightly higher hold of 11.7% to produce $19.6 million in profits, about $10 million less than in January. BetMGM produced a nearly identical month, though, with a $54.5-million handle and $4.8 million in gross revenue.
Fanatics stayed in the $30-million range but fell just short of a double-digit hold in February. ESPN BET’s $22-million handle put it in the top five and narrowly beat out Caesars, which generated $21.1 million in wagers. Both saw month-over-month drops in revenue.
Encore gets hit hard
The Bay State’s three brick-and-mortar sportsbooks took in $9.6 million in bets during the Super Bowl month, led by Encore Boston Harbor’s $4.9-million handle. However, bettors must’ve been all over the Eagles as the retail sportsbook paid out $43,000 more than it took in.
Plainridge Park won back just 3% of its handle, leading to a revenue gain of $101,000 on $3.3 million in bets. MGM Springfield, however, produced an 11.8% hold to make over $155,000 on a $1.3-million handle.
