Empire State online sports betting during Super Bowl LIX week was much higher than the previous year’s NFL event. In the week ending Feb. 9, the state's Gaming Commission reported nine mobile sportsbooks generated a $557.9 million handle, up 17.5% from Super Bowl LVIII. Football combined with the NBA, college basketball, NHL, and other sports led to higher action and a massively increased hold producing a whopping $62.4 million in operator gross revenue.

New York sports betting operators combined for just $5.1 million in revenue during the same week last year. The 11.8% hold for the week ending Feb. 9 in the most lucrative U.S. sports betting market was up from the previous Super Bowl week's 1.1% win rate.

Online Big Game wagering alone generated $41.3 million in gross revenue from a $129.1 million handle. Including futures bets, mobile operators made $47.4 million from another $24.3 million in wagers. Super Bowl LIX's tax haul filled New York's coffers with nearly $24.2 million just from online sports betting.

Wagering for the week ending Feb. 9 increased 7.5% from the previous week’s non-football period while gross revenue jumped 10.8% week-over-week. Handle surpassed $500 million for the eighth consecutive week while operator revenue reached $50 million for the fourth time in five weeks.

FanDuel, DraftKings take big action

New York's two largest market-share leaders had a healthy wagering week. FanDuel enjoyed a monster seven days. Its $222.2 million handle was the third highest in a single week since Dec. 2024 and a 37.5% increase from last year’s Super Bowl week. The online operator generated $33.8 million, FanDuel's second-highest of all-time in New York, thanks to a 15.2% hold. FD’s Super Bowl LIX week profits rose 96.5% from last year’s Big Game.

DraftKings also enjoyed a hefty uptick in bets. Its $194 million handle was a 9.2% week-over-week increase and the most wagered in a single week since $202.7 million at the end of November. Behind an 8.9% hold, the online book generated $17.2 million in gross revenue, down over $1 million from the previous week but up $10 million from the same week in 2024.

Remaining New York operators

Unlike FanDuel and DraftKings, the state’s other online sportsbooks didn’t see the same kind of week-over-week action increases. Four operators took fewer amounts of wagers during Super Bowl week while two smaller books saw marginal increases.

Fanatics Sportsbook generated a 10.8% hold on a $39.8 million handle, gaining $4.3 million in gross revenue in its first Super Bowl in New York. BetMGM, which lost over $9.6 million during last year's Super Bowl, turned a $2.7 million profit this year on a $38.4 million handle.

Caesars took in $32.5 million, and an 11.7% hold led to $3.8 million in gross revenue. ESPN BET’s $11.8 million handle beat out BetRivers for fifth by about $100,000. PENN Entertainment hauled in $1.2 million in revenue, its second highest since launching ESPN BET in late Sept. 2024.
