The NFL’s Conference Championship Sunday helped Empire State sportsbooks generate a more than $500 million weekly handle for the sixth consecutive week. However, bettors fared much better as nine online sports operators produced 44.4% less revenue than the previous playoff week. Both the Kanas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles covered the spread as favorites to advance to Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9.
New York's Gaming Commission reported $541 million in wagers during the week ending Jan. 26, including the College Football Playoff’s National Championship Game between Ohio State and Notre Dame. A 7% hold left sportsbooks with $37.9 million in revenue, also down 14.5% from the same week in 2023.
The handle was up 28.1% year-over-year, but with fewer football options, wagering dropped 8.9% from the previous week. A streak of back-to-back double-digit holds ended as well, but New York operators hauled in at least $34 million in revenue for 14 consecutive weeks.
DraftKings produces highest revenue
FanDuel was once again the top sportsbook in handle, generating over $200 million in wagers for a record sixth consecutive week. Championship Sunday brought in $209.4 million, a 9.4% week-over-week decrease. A 6.7% hold produced $14 million, the lowest since the week ending Oct. 20.
DraftKings had a better week with a 7.6% win rate on a $189.9 million handle that produced $14.5 million in revenue. The online book fell just shy of its fourth consecutive week with over $190 million wagered.
Caesars has solid run
Fanatics Sportsbook held its ground as the third most-used sportsbook in handle in New York. The online operator generated $41.7 million in wagers during the week ending Jan. 26. BetMGM was fourth at $37.8 million while Caesars rounded out the top five with a $34.9 million handle.
Caesars had the second-best hold among all operators with an 8.7% win rate, behind Resorts World Bet’s 10.6%, which produced over $3 million in revenue, third-most in New York.
Empire State bettors wagered $13 million with ESPN BET to keep the operator ahead of BetRivers, which generated a $10.3 million handle. Both produced win rates of around 5%.
