PrizePicks landed its first deal with an NHL team on Thursday.
The daily fantasy sports operator announced an official partnership with the Dallas Stars.
PrizePicks, the largest DFS site in North America, will run commercial spots on the Stars’ local television broadcast, be featured in digitally enhanced dasher boards along the ice, and offer VIP experiences to fans.
PrizePicks also gained access to the Dallas logo on its site.
“We are thrilled to further establish the PrizePicks brand alongside a great franchise like the Dallas Stars,” said PrizePicks CEO and Co-founder Adam Wexler. “Texas is one of our most highly engaged markets, and hockey is one of our fastest growing segments. This partnership will accelerate our ability to enhance the gameday experience for fans.”
This is the first partnership for PrizePicks in the Lonestar State, which doesn’t have legal sports betting but is the largest market in which the DFS site operates.
“Elevating the game day experience for our fans will always be a top priority for us,” said Dallas Stars President and CEO Brad Alberts. “We're excited about our partnership with PrizePicks, and we look forward to engaging with fans in this new and unique way.”
Looking up
PrizePicks, an Atlanta-based company that operates in 34 U.S. jurisdictions and Canada, needed some good news after running into regulation issues this year.
PrizePicks stopped offering fee-based pick ’em-style games in New York on Feb. 15 and reached a $15 million settlement with Empire State regulators after illegally operating there. PrizePicks is currently seeking a New York operating license.
Florida regulators recently sent a second cease and desist letter to PrizePicks and two other DFS sites in order to end operations in the Sunshine State.
Texas, meanwhile, doesn’t have a law on the books prohibiting DFS sites from operating in the Lonestar State.
Big deal
The popular NHL franchise is one of PrizePicks' biggest deals. The company has a partnership with the BIG3 basketball league and a DFS exclusive deal with the Stephen A. Smith Show.
The Stars are one of the top teams in the NHL this season. Dallas leads the Western Conference with 76 points, third-most in the entire league heading into Thursday's contests.
