In an effort to expand its legal sports betting data and content globally, U.S. Soccer is turning to technology company Sportradar to reach an increased audience and grow the business of the sport.

The two sides announced a partnership on Tuesday to give Sportradar exclusive rights to collect, license, and distribute the federation’s official betting and media data in the U.S. and internationally.

“We know that when fans place bets on a game, their interest in the sport intensifies,” Eric Conrad, Executive Vice President, Strategic Partnerships & Content at Sportradar, said. “I am confident that our scale, technology, and leadership in the market will position us to effectively monetize these rights with a strong focus on future value creation.”

Sportradar also receives exclusive distribution rights for live AV streaming of U.S. Soccer competitions outside of the U.S.

What will Sportradar do for soccer?

It’s a positive move for the soccer federation, as American interest in online betting sites continues to grow.

With the arrival of superstar Lionel Messi to Miami CF, it only makes sense for the federation to expand its technology. Sportradar will be able to bring that to fans globally as the partnership covers 111 matches per year — including the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

U.S. Soccer believes this deal with help them develop and deepen fan relationships, attract and engage the next generation of supporters, and increase revenue opportunities. The partnership also includes competitions involving the men’s and women’s U.S. National Teams and the SheBelieves Cup.

“The partnership with Sportradar is massive for U.S. Soccer,” Ross Moses, Vice President of Business Ventures of U.S. Soccer, said. “The incredible youth and diversity that strengthen the USMNT and USWNT are just as evident in our fan bases, and this is an obvious area — not only gaming but technology broadly — to accelerate the growth of our sport and connect new partners to important growth demographics.”

Mult-faceted company

Sportradar will also be U.S. Soccer’s leading sports betting integrity service to monitor fraud and educate about match-fixing across the federation.

The Switzerland-based company delivers real-time play-by-play, stats, injury updates, news, and more to sports betting operators and bettors. It has other official partnerships with MLB, NBA, NHL, and NASCAR.

Along with U.S. soccer, Sportradar currently possesses soccer deals with FIFA, CONMEBOL, Bundesliga, and the Asian Football Confederation.
