Vermont sports betting is off and running.

The Green Mountain State launched online wagering at midnight on Thursday with FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics Sportsbook accepting the first bets in Vermont history.

This weekend’s NFL playoffs were a big part of the first day. According to FanDuel, a $10 parlay on the Houston Texans moneyline and the Kansas City Chiefs at -4.5 was the online sportsbook's first wager accepted. A $12.50 bonus bet on the Texans to win the AFC at +1800 with a payout of $225 kicked things off on DraftKings.

The first bet at Fanatics was on the NBA as a bettor placed a $10 wager that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Max Strus would go over 2.5 three-pointers made against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday afternoon.

State of sports betting

Vermont became the last New England state to launch sports betting.

The Green Mountain State tasked the Department of Liquor and Lottery with regulating Vermont’s only form of gambling other than the lottery. The state has no retail sportsbooks, iGaming, or brick-and-mortar casinos.

Bettors must be 21 and older to place bets, and the state law allows for up to six operators. FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics are the only three online sportsbooks currently approved for operation. BetMGM and PENN Entertainment’s ESPN BET were denied licenses.

Vermont sports betting operators are offering bonuses for new customers.

Green Mountain State officials hope to generate $7 million of tax revenue in the first year of sports betting.
