Caitlin Clark was selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, changing the direction of both the league and the Indiana Fever on Monday night.
The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer had a huge impact on women’s basketball. The unprecedented attention, huge ratings, and historical sports betting from college basketball is coming to the WNBA.
The Fever guard has yet to play a minute in Indiana and will be facing veteran WNBA players, yet 74% of the MVP bets and 77% of the handle are already on Clark, FanDuel told Covers on Tuesday.
At +1,200, she’s behind only A’ja Wilson (+160), Breanna Stewart (+550), and Alyssa Thomas (+1,000) to take home the league’s top individual honor this season at FanDuel.
BetMGM has similar numbers with Clark listed at +1,200.
Two popular special markets for Clark on FanDuel include recording 10+ 3-pointers in any WNBA game this season at +2,200 and scoring 50+ points in a single game at +2,600.
A team on the rise
Clark’s addition to the Indiana franchise is being felt as well.
BetMGM told Covers that the Fever, a team that finished dead last in the league last year, holds the sportsbook’s highest liability in the league’s futures market. Indiana has moved from an opening line of +2,500 to +2,000 to win the WNBA championship and has received 40.6% of the tickets, more than any other team.
The Fever is listed on FanDuel’s odds to win the WNBA championship at +3,500. Indiana has received the most wagers to capture the title at 34% and its 24% of the handle is second-most behind the Las Vegas Aces.
Ambitious betting
Fever fans and bettors have real optimism in Indiana, where sports betting is legal.
The team won just 13 games a season ago, but its over/under win total at bet365 is set at 22.5 (-110). Ambitious bettors can get 25+ wins at +165.
Clark is also the overwhelming favorite for WNBA Rookie of the Year at -950.
