The slumping New York Yankees take a four-game losing streak into Tuesday’s showdown with the Los Angeles Angels after dropping the series opener 5-3.

The loss dropped the fourth-place Yankees to a game back of the Toronto Blue Jays for third in the East, but they remain heavy betting favorites over Los Angeles for Tuesday night’s tilt in the Bronx.

Starting pitchers

Andrew Heaney (4-5, 4.72 ERA): The lefty is coming off a 10-strikeout performance but it was overshadowed by the 10 hits, including two bombs, and five runs he surrendered in a loss to the Giants. While the punchouts were nice, it turned out to be his worst start of the month. On the flip side, June has been his best month, as he has a 3.75 ERA over four starts, but at no point this season has his ERA been under 4.00.

Jameson Taillon (2-4, 5.18 ERA): Taillon was an intriguing offseason pickup for the Yanks but he has struggled in his first season in the Bronx. The righty's ERA has been above 5.00 all season and he's been unable to work deep into games, completing six-plus innings in only two of his 14 starts. One of them, however, came in his last outing when he held the Royals to run on five hits and struck out six over 6 1-3 innings of work.

Moneyline pick

The Angels, who won their second in a row following a five-game skid, were probably let off the hook when Dylan Bundy was forced to leave Monday’s game in the second inning after getting sick (heat exhaustion) and puking on the mound.

Bundy has had a miserable season and the Yanks got to him for two runs on four hits but did little else the rest of the game, mustering only one more run and two hits against a trio of Angels relievers. The Yankees aren’t awful but they are maddeningly inconsistent and on Tuesday will be up against a pitcher who fits that exact description.

Heaney is one of the most frustrating pitchers in the game. He has above-average strikeout rates every season — allowing him to dominate some games — and doesn't walk many guys but he gets killed by the long ball, leading to a career 4.47 ERA.

Heaney has punched out 10 batters in three different starts this season, but the Angels have somehow won none of those games. The Yanks strike out a lot, putting Heaney in a decent spot to continue building on his near-career-high 11.14 K/9 rate and help the Angels escape with a W.

While the talented Heaney has proven that he can't be trusted, neither can Taillon. He rarely gives the Yanks any length, working five innings or fewer in six of his last eight starts,

New York is heavily overpriced at -160, while the Angels feel like a borderline steal at +130. The Yankees are only two games better than the Angels and don't look the part of contender no matter how much name value litters their roster.

They aren’t worthy of this much respect and the price discrepancy should not be this large with Taillon starting for New York. Act accordingly.

PREDICTION: Los Angeles (+130)

Over/Under pick

It's the second straight game where the total has been set at double-digits. While the teams fell short of last night's 10.5 total (thanks, Bundy), that doesn’t mean you should be scared off by the high number tonight.

Both of these former first-round picks enter the start with ERAs north of 5.00 in June and both have been hammered by the long ball this season. Heaney has allowed 1.44 homers per nine innings while Taillon has a 1.54 HR/9 rate, placing them each in the Top 25 among starters who have thrown at least 60 innings.

And they will be up against clubs that can drive the ball out of the park, with both teams ranking in the Top 10 for most dingers. New York has a lot of thump from the right side and 10 of the 11 homers Heaney has served up this season have been to right-handers, making power bats Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez, and Luke Voit a difficult assignment for the southpaw.

As for Taillon, lefties have crushed him this year and the Angels employ one of the most dangerous hitters in the game who happens to bat from the left side — Shohei Ohtani, you may have heard of him. He went yard again last night, obliterating his 26th homer (tying him for the MLB lead) in his first Yankee Stadium at-bat.

Lefties are hitting .280/.356/.517 against Taillon, setting up Ohtani and fellow left-handed bat and righty masher Jared Walsh with a plus matchup.

The total is high, but we think both starters encounter trouble tonight.

PREDICTION: Over 10 (-105)
