Starting pitchers
Zack Greinke (3-1, 4.18 ERA): Greinke no longer has the same stuff that once made him one of the game’s best pitchers, but he’s still extremely effective because he simply knows how to get guys out. Greinke is smart on the mound, and somehow gets results despite occasionally mixing in pitches that don’t even go 60 mph! Earlier in the season, he pitched six innings of shutout ball against this same Athletics team.
Frankie Montas (5-2, 4.93 ERA): Montas has given the Athletics three quality starts in his last four outings, with the other one being a game in which he allowed only two earned runs in 5 1-3 innings of work. He’s really doing a good job of giving the A’s a chance to win games, and he’ll now try to do the same against a dangerous Astros lineup.

Moneyline pick
The Astros were scorching hot before dropping the first game in this series and they’ll be looking to get back on track in a very winnable game against Montas.
Michael Brantley is one of the many Houston players that has had success against Montas in his career, as Brantley is 6 for 22 with three doubles, a homer and three RBI against the young righty. Also, Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel and Carlos Correa are a combined 18 for 62 against Montas as well. It wouldn’t be surprising if any of these guys helped the Astros earn a win in this one.
If that’s not convincing enough, there’s also the fact that Greinke is 5-2 with a 2.41 ERA in 11 starts in Oakland. He has always done well in this ballpark, and he should be able to turn in a solid outing in this game.
PREDICTION: Astros (-115)
Over/Under pick
In Greinke’s only start against the Athletics this year, he struck out four batters in six innings of shutout baseball.
Greinke only allowed three hits in that game and will look to turn in a similar effort this time out. He might not keep the A’s off the scoreboard in this one but he should be able to do his part in keeping this one Under.
The same goes for Montas, who struck out five and gave up only one earned run in six innings against the Astros on April 10. These might not be two aces out there, but both pitchers are capable of helping keep this total somewhat low.
PREDICTION: Over 8.5 (-110)
