Blue Jays starter Yariel Rodriguez looks to build on what's been a solid rookie campaign today, and the A's feeble lineup should help him accomplish that.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to build off their win in the series opener as they welcome the Oakland Athletics back to Rogers Centre this afternoon.

The Athletics, who scored just one run last night, have struggled to get much going at the plate over the past week and could be in for another low-scoring effort against Jays starter Yariel Rodriguez.

Find out why I think the visitors could have another tough day at the dish in my A's vs. Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for Saturday, August 10.

A's vs Blue Jays prediction

My best bet
A's Under 3.5 runs (+105 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

The struggles at the plate continued for the Oakland Athletics in Friday’s series opener as Toronto Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios struck out eight while scattering six hits and giving up just one run over seven innings as the hosts earned a 3-1 win.

The A’s, who came out hot to start the second half, now find themselves in a bit of a slump, going 3-5 over their last eight contests while averaging just 2.25 runs per game over that span. That trend could continue this afternoon in Toronto as Jays starter Yariel Rodriguez looks to stay hot.

July was a big month for the first-year MLB pitcher, who earned his first career win against the Mariners on July 6. He posted a stingy 3.13 ERA over five starts. Rodriguez was just as impressive in his last outing against the Yankees on Sunday, allowing four hits and no runs over 4 2/3 innings.

Rodriguez has held the opposition to two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts, and with A’s slugger Brent Rooker batting just .208 with four RBI in August, the visitors look poised to put up another low-scoring effort.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 hits (+138 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had yet another big night at the plate on Friday, knocking two singles to extend his hit streak to 21 games. Vladdy’s average is up to a ridiculous .500 through 20 games in the second half — the best mark in the majors.

Mathematically speaking, Guerrero Jr. is due for two hits if he gets four at-bats this afternoon. He’s also picked up multiple hits in two straight games and four of his last seven outings.

  • The Blue Jays opened as the home favorite at -136 and saw their edge climb to at least -150 at most books. 71% of bettors had their money on Toronto as of late Friday night.
  • The Jays have won seven of their last nine meetings against the Athletics and have picked up steam at home, going 6-1 in their last seven games at Rogers Centre.
  • Today’s total opened at a lofty 9 runs with 61% of bettors taking the Over. However, the A’s have cashed the Under in five straight games largely due to their subpar offense.
