Today's Best NRFI/YRFI Bets for Tuesday, April 1

The Yankees have torpedoed their way into early scoring with some nifty new bats, and we like that trend to continue even if Corbin Burnes stifles them because the visiting Diamondbacks have some offensive pop of their own.

NRFI/YRFI bets for April 1

Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Yankees: YRFI (-130 at ProphetX)

How’s this for a bet that is begging to be wagered on? It starts with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team that led the majors in first-inning scoring in 2024, delivering at nearly a 39% clip.

Then you’ve got the New York Yankees, who bombed their way to a series sweep over the Brewers, mostly by getting their offense out and running, scoring in the first inning in every game.

Corbin Burnes gets the call for the Diamondbacks, and only three Yankees have had more than 10 at-bats against him. The most successful is Paul Goldschmidt — .323 against him in 31 at-bats.

Goldschmidt batted leadoff twice against the Brewers and could be the catalyst to get things popping off again.

San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros: NRFI  (-146 at ProphetX)

It’s early, and we’re picking from a small sample size, but right now, this is one of the matchups that pits two teams that have yet to score a run in the first inning this season.

The Houston Astros are the second-lowest scoring team in baseball, with just eight runs in four games. The San Francisco Giants, meanwhile, might be slow starters, but their offense is just fine, as they’ve hung 21 runs in four games, ranking just outside the Top 10.

Giants starter Logan Webb surrendered a first-inning run in his first start vs. the Reds, but he had a clean opening frame in last year’s lone outing against the Astros.

Astros starter Hayden Wesneski worked mostly as a reliever with spot starts in three seasons with the Cubs and will be making his first start with Houston.

The Giants aren’t familiar with his stuff, as the roster only has 19 career at-bats against him.

Texas Rangers at Cincinnati Reds: YRFI (-130 at ProphetX)

The Cincinnati Reds, who ranked as one of the lowest first inning scoring teams a year ago (24th), are sitting Top 5 early on, cashing a first-inning run in half of their games so far.

Monday’s opener against the Texas Rangers had the Reds ripping, scoring three runs in the first, setting the stage for a 14-3 romp.

They’ll get another chance at Nathan Eovaldi today. He did have a clean first inning against the Red Sox, but Boston is hitting .201 out of the gate in 2025, while Cincinnati is in the Top 10, hitting .263.

Coincidentally, Cincinnati’s starting pitcher, Carson Spiers, making his 2025 debut, might be the one who surrenders a first-inning run. Spiers had a rough 5.46 ERA in his 10 starts in 2024, with five first-inning runs coming in his last eight outings.
