The Toronto Blue Jays eked out a 4-2 win in Friday’s series opener against the New York Yankees, but they’ll face a much taller task on Sunday afternoon as Max Fried takes the mound for the hosts.

Fried has been nearly untouchable in the early going, and I’ll explain why I’m expecting him to put up another dominant performance in my Blue Jays vs. Yankees predictions and MLB picks for April 27.

Editor's Note: This game was moved to Sunday afternoon following Saturday’s rainout.

Blue Jays vs Yankees prediction

My Blue Jays vs Yankees best bet: Blue Jays F5 team total Under 1.5 (+101 at Pinnacle)

The Toronto Blue Jays snapped their five-game losing skid in Friday’s series opener vs. the New York Yankees, though it wasn’t the most convincing win. The Jays managed just one run through the first eight innings before Alejandro Kirk hit a two-run double in the top of the ninth to steal the victory for the visitors.

Toronto managed to play .500 baseball through the first month of the season, though it was in spite of the club’s stagnant offense. Entering Sunday, the Blue Jays rank 25th in the majors in total RBI (87), 26th in slugging percentage (.348), and 29th in home runs (14).

Those numbers start to add up when you consider that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has just one RBI in his last eight games while George Springer has three in his last 10.

It’ll only get more difficult for the Jays, though, as they take on Yankees ace Max Fried. The southpaw pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits to the Tampa Bay Rays last weekend, and has given up a total of three earned runs over his last four starts.

Fried boasts a clean 1.00 ERA over that span as opposing batters are hitting .186 against the first-year Yankee.

The Blue Jays are averaging exactly two runs through the first five innings of ball games this season, and I think they’ll fall short of that number vs. Fried.

Blue Jays vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Max Fried Under 1.5 earned runs

Under 9

Aaron Judge 1+ hits

We can't use my best bet in an SGP, but Max Fried Under 1.5 earned runs is a logical substitute.

I’ve spoken about Fried’s dominance, but we should give some respect to Jays' starter Kevin Gausman as well. The right-hander owns a 3.16 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP through his first five starts while allowing three earned runs or fewer in four of those games.

With two solid starters going at it and the Jays averaging just 2.11 runs per game over their last nine outings, I think the Under is also an easy play.

Aaron Judge enters the weekend with hits in six straight, and multiple hits in three of those games. Pencil him in for another knock this afternoon to finish off the same-game parlay.
