Timo Meier has threatened the net as much as anybody in this series, piling up the shots and chances each time out.

My Hurricanes vs. Devils predictions expect that trend to continue on home soil, where Meier has cleared 2.5 shots in seven of his last nine.

Let’s dive deeper into my NHL picks for Sunday, April 27.

Who will win Hurricanes vs Devils Game 4?

The Devils picked up a thrilling overtime victory in Game 3 while generating more shots, scoring chances, and expected goals than the Hurricanes by decisive margins.

The Hurricanes were not nearly as effective on the road this season as at home, and that was evident in Game 3. I expect the Devils will take advantage of that and even up the series.

Hurricanes vs Devils prediction

My Hurricanes vs Devils pick: Timo Meier Over 2.5 shots on goal (-139 at Sports Interaction)

Timo Meier has been a one-man shooting gallery in this series. He has recorded 10 shots on 27 attempts through three games and generated at least eight shot attempts each time out.

Nobody on either team has piled up more shots, attempts, or scoring chances than Meier thus far.

He is skating on a line with Nico Hischier during 5-on-5 play, which greatly helps his volume. Hischier is a high-end play driver and playmaker who is more than happy to defer to his countryman.

Meier is also a hard-nosed player who is willing to fight through contact and drive his way to the net. That’s imperative when playing against a team that is as heavy, and defensively sound, as the Carolina Hurricanes.

They don’t give their opponents much ice — it needs to be taken. Meier has done that, as evidenced by his series-leading seven rebound attempts.

Meier is skating on the top line, the No. 1 power play, and constantly threatening as a shooter. In a series where goals are so hard to come by, head coach Sheldon Keefe will no doubt continue putting a lot on Meier’s plate in terms of workload.

Not to mention, the New Jersey Devils still have home ice in this game. That means less ice against Jaccob Slavin and more against defensemen lower on the depth chart.

Look for Meier to take advantage and continue piling up the shots.

Hurricanes vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)

Timo Meier Over 2.5 shots on goal

Andrei Svechnikov Over 1.5 shots on goal

Under 6.5

Andrei Svechnikov has quietly put up strong shooting numbers in this series. He has seven shots on 21 attempts through three games and has multiple shots on target in two of the three.

The lowest amount of attempts he’s taken — by far — were the four that came in Game 2. While that may not sound like a lot, Svechnikov recorded at least two shots on goal in 83% of his games during the regular season when attempting four shots or more.

Svechnikov was on for more Carolina shots, and scoring chances, than any other player during 5-on-5 play Friday night. The Hurricanes dominated in his minutes.

With the Devils understandably more focused on slowing down the Sebastian Aho-Seth Jarvis duo, Svechnikov is getting softer matchups. Clearly, he’s capable of making the most of them.

Finally, we’re backing this to be a relatively low-scoring game. Five goals or fewer were scored in each of the first three games of this series.

Jacob Markstrom looks like the Top-10 goaltender he was prior to his injury, while Frederik Andersen has held up very well at the other end of the ice. There’s no reason to expect the floodgates to open in a massive swing game that carries a ton of weight for both sides.
