The Detroit Pistons host the New York Knicks in Game 4 on Sunday, and this is a must-win for the Pistons as they face the possibility of heading back to New York down 3-1 and on the brink of elimination.

Can the Pistons get it done in front of the home crowd, or will the Knicks steal a second straight game on the road?

My Knicks vs. Pistons predictions expect Cade Cunningham to lead the charge in a pivotal Detroit win.

Read my NBA picks to see how I’m betting the moneyline and point total and why you should take the Over on Cunningham’s points prop.

Who will win Knicks vs Pistons Game 4?

This series has been a dog fight, with both teams trading blows through Games 1-3. Detroit is desperate to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole heading back on the road, and I'll give them the edge at Little Caesars Arena. Expect a sense of urgency and a victory from the home team.

Knicks vs Pistons prediction

My best bet: Pistons moneyline (-130 at bet365)

The Detroit Pistons opened up as the underdog, but the line has moved in favor of the home team, and I’m happy to take the Pistons as outright winners.

The New York Knicks won the first head-to-head matchup with Detroit to open the 2024-25 season, but the Pistons won three straight to win the season series. The Pistons looked like they were heading for a fourth straight victory and an upset win at Madison Square Garden in Game 1. Detroit took an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter, but a 21-0 Knicks run resulted in a 19-point swing and double-digit victory for New York.

The Pistons stormed back with a six-point win on the road to even up the series, but New York overcame a late Detroit surge to earn a two-point win in Game 3 and take a 2-1 series lead. The Pistons are +7 in the series through three games, showcasing just how close this series has been. Six of the 12 quarters have been decided by three points or fewer, and 10 have been decided by eight or fewer. The fourth quarter of Game 1 provided a major momentum swing for the Knicks, and without it, the Pistons could be up 2-1 right now.

In a series that has been so close and come down to the final quarter in all three games, I’m backing the home team. New York’s roster is full of veterans with playoff experience, but the Pistons have shown poise thus far. Led by star point guard Cade Cunningham, the Pistons have a unique combination of size, speed, and finally spacing. Three-point specialists Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley have been impactful, and veteran Dennis Schroder has shown up for his teammates.

The Pistons went 26-12 straight up as the favorites this season, including 14-7 as the home favorites. New York won just four of 13 games as the road dog and four of 17 as the underdog at any venue.

I expect the Pistons to come out with a wild sense of urgency here. They know that they could be leading this series, and they know that a loss tonight means they’ll have to win three straight to extend their season. With two of the next three games after this one scheduled at Madison Square Garden, Game 4 is a must-win, and it will guarantee at least one more home game.

I’m backing Detroit to take care of business and even up the series.

Knicks vs Pistons same-game parlay

Pistons moneyline

Over 217

Cade Cunningham Over 27.5 points

In seven head-to-head matchups this season, the Knicks and Pistons hit the Over five times, and they combined for at least 218 points in six of them. Over the last 10 meetings between these teams, they hit that total nine times. Detroit averaged 109.3 points per game this season (7th most), and New York averaged 111.7 (4th most), and the teams should have no problem clearing a modest point total here.

If Detroit wants to even up the series, the buck stops with Cunningham. As he goes, so go the Pistons, and I expect a masterful performance on offense. He’s gone for at least 28 points in six of nine against the Knicks across the last two seasons. In seven games this season, he averaged 33.5 points in four wins compared to just 22.3 in three losses. Detroit needs him at his best, and that’s the version of him we’ll get in Game 4.
