Blue Jays vs Angels Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

Two franchises counting down the days to October are set to square off in L.A. tonight. Both teams suck, but Toronto will suck a tad less in this affair.

The Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays open up a three-game series tonight, with both teams just playing out the string after largely miserable seasons.

However, one team has to win, and my Blue Jays vs. Angels predictions expect that dub to go Toronto's way. Find out why in my MLB picks for August 12.

Blue Jays vs Angels prediction

My best bet
Blue Jays moneyline (-109 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
There was disappointment all around Rogers Centre yesterday afternoon as the Toronto Blue Jays slumped to another frustrating loss, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s magical hit streak was broken at 22 games.

But I like the Blue Jays in this matchup against inexperienced Los Angeles Angels starter Davis Daniel. Daniel was chased from his last start after just 3 1/3 innings as the New York Yankees clubbed him for five runs on seven hits.

Toronto has covered the run line in 24 of its last 37 matchups, and the youth movement is now in full swing, with several young hitters auditioning for roles next season alongside Vladdy.

Spencer Horwitz and Ernie Clement, two of those high-upside bats, had three-hit games to open the series against Oakland, and I see that competition for places on the 2025 roster keeping the visitors competitive down the stretch.

Meanwhile, the Angels have key figures on the IL — including Mike Trout and Luis Rengifo — and they’ve given up at least four runs in four of their past six contests.

The Blue Jays have won three of the past four meetings between these teams, and I see them padding that head-to-head edge tonight.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Bowden Francis Over 4.5 strikeouts (+120 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
It’s been a bumpy year for Bowden Francis but he’s got a path to a steady role in Toronto if he finishes the season on a high note. His last two starts have been encouraging, including a seven-strikeout effort against the Baltimore Orioles on August 7.

Francis has been flip-flopping between the starting rotation and the bullpen, but he looks set for another stint as the Blue Jays’ fifth starter.

Though he’ll need to improve on a 5.44 ERA, I see him challenging the L.A. lineup tonight. He should get some wiggle room to pitch his way out of trouble as the visitors try to assess his long-term fit.

The Toronto righty has posted five or more Ks on four occasions this season, and this is another good opportunity to rack them up, with the Angels’ offense ranking in the middle of the AL pack in punchouts. Plus odds also make this prop a little more sweeter.

Blue Jays vs Angels live odds

Blue Jays vs Angels opening odds

  • Run line: Toronto +1.5 (-205) | Los Angeles -1.5 (+170)
  • Moneyline: Toronto -105 | Los Angeles -115
  • Over/Under: Over 9.0 (-115) | Under 9.0 (-105)

Blue Jays vs Angels spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The moneyline suggests this is essentially a coin flip, but the Angels are just 26-35 at home this year, and they’re 1-4 in Daniel’s past five starts.
  • Toronto has won two of Francis’ last three starts.
  • The Blue Jays have cashed in the Over in 39 of their last 60 outings, though both teams are averaging a subpar 4.08 rpg in 2024, so the O/U line of 9.0 speaks more to the unpredictable pitchers on the mound.
  • Despite more bad injury luck this season, L.A. has hit the Over in 20 of its last 36 games at home.

Blue Jays vs Angels trend

The Angels have only hit the first five innings moneyline in 19 of their past 61 home contests. Find more MLB betting trends for Blue Jays vs. Angels.
