The Toronto Blue Jays continue their run of facing American League Central Division opponents when they open up a three-game weekend set against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
Toronto enters this series as winners of 11 of its last 14 ball games, thanks to an offense that has started to click. The Jays will send Jose Berrios to the mound as he looks to build off an impressive performance in his last outing.

Blue Jays vs Tigers betting preview
Starting pitchers
Jose Berrios (4-2, 5.24 ERA): It has been a terribly inconsistent start to the season for Berrios. The right-hander is hoping to stay in form from his last start, where he limited the Twins to two runs on three hits while striking out a career-high 13 batters over seven innings.
Elvin Rodriguez (0-1, 10.13 ERA): The rookie has shown flashes of his potential in his first four games, but the transition to the big leagues has been tough. Rodriguez has an expected ERA of 5.02 and he may have been tipping his pitches in his last outing against the Yankees.

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Run line analysis
The Blue Jays were unable to complete the sweep of the Royals in Wednesday’s matinee matchup but have won 11 of their last 14 games overall. The offense is clicking, and Jose Berrios has a great start to build off.
Meanwhile, the Tigers also come into this one playing fairly well, going 9-5 over their last 14 games. They are still struggling to score, however, and will hand the ball to an inexperienced rookie who could be a little overmatched by this hot Jays’ lineup.
Speaking of which, Toronto leads the MLB in batting average, OPS, and wRC+ over that 14-game stretch and it hasn’t been just the big names like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette doing all the damage — guys like Alejandro Kirk and Santiago Espinal have stepped up big time.
Tonight, they’ll dig in against the Tigers' Elvin Rodriguez. As noted, he’s shown some promise, but he's only struck out 14 batters over the span of 16 major-league innings. He is also giving up a .546 expected slugging percentage to opponents.
The Jays will counter Rodriguez with Jose Berrios, who will be the first to admit this season has not gone to plan. The right-hander has an ugly xERA of 6.55 and is giving up a .314 xBA to opponents. When his stuff is on, he can still be one of the more effective starters in the AL, just like he was in his last start when he struck out 13 Twins.
Now, he goes against a Tigers team that is the lowest-scoring team in the MLB and ranks 29th in batting average and OPS when going against right-handed pitching.
The Blue Jays should bounce back from their latest defeat and take this game from the Tigers by a couple of runs.
Prediction: Blue Jays -1.5 (-130 at DraftKings)
Over/Under analysis
Taking a run line can always be a little unnerving when baseball betting, but you can feel a little more confident when betting the total in this one. More specifically, putting money on the Under.
This number is just too high. It is giving a lot of respect to the Jays' offense, but expecting 10 runs in a game that includes the Tigers means you are putting a little bit of faith in arguably the worst offense in baseball.
We mentioned the Tigers are the lowest-scoring team in the MLB, plating just 156 runs this season. That is just 2.82 runs per game. To put it in perspective, they are one of just three teams to not score 200 runs this season. The other two are the A’s and the Pirates who have scored 191 and 190 respectively.
And even though the Blue Jays' offense is rolling, scoring a high number of runs every game is asking a lot from them.
The Jays should have success against Rodriguez, but if he gets in trouble the Tigers can turn to (somewhat surprisingly) one of the best bullpens in baseball. Detroit’s relievers rank second in the MLB in ERA, WHIP, and opponent batting average.
That should be enough to let this one slip Under the number.
Prediction: Under 9 (-115 at DraftKings)
Best bet
For all the reasons listed above, the Under looks like a great bet tonight, so that makes the list as a best bet, but I would be doing you an injustice by not mentioning Alejandro Kirk.
The Blue Jays catcher is quietly becoming one of the best hitters in baseball. There aren’t many players in the game today who can recognize a strike out of a pitcher’s hand better than Kirk. The Blue Jays catcher is getting punched out in just 9.3% of his plate appearances, which ranks in the Top 2% of all MLB hitters.
Kirk’s ability to recognize strikes means he doesn’t chase, creating a ton of contact — and right now he’s on fire. Kirk is hitting .467 with a 1.352 OPS with eight extra-base hits over his last 12 games. In the 11 games he's started during that span, he's gone Over 1.5 total bases eight times.
Getting this type of plus money on Kirk’s total bases is too good to pass up.
Pick: Under 9 (-115 at DraftKings)
Pick: Alejandro Kirk Over 1.5 total bases (+120 at DraftKings)
