Starting pitchers
Adrian Houser (2-2, 3.65 ERA): Houser doesn’t pitch far into games, but he generally gives his team a chance every time he goes out there. The righty has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his five appearances this season, and he’ll now face a Phillies offense that runs hot and cold. Realistically, Houser isn’t anything special, but he’s arguably the better of the two starters that’ll be throwing in this game. Also, he has been a bit better on the road to start the year.
Vince Velasquez (0-0, 6.57 ERA): Velasquez is yet another guy that won’t give his team too many innings, and he has actually bounced back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen throughout his career. The righty simply lacks command when he’s on the bump, as evidenced by his 11 walks in 12.1 innings of work this season. If he can’t keep things under control in this one, this game could get out of hand.

Moneyline pick
The Brewers just won three out of four against the Dodgers, and it now seems as though they’ll get some of the big guns back in the lineup. Both Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain seem set to return from injuries in this series, and that should boost a team that has already been getting the job done. Milwaukee’s offense hasn’t exactly been impressive to start the year, but that shouldn’t be a concern with Velasquez on the mound for Philadelphia.
Velasquez’s lack of control is going to be an issue in this game, as he’s likely going to give the Brewers a few too many opportunities to drive in runs. The last thing you want to do against a struggling offense is put too many undeserving hitters on base, and it’s just hard to imagine that not happening here. Also, Velasquez has oddly had trouble getting righties out this season, and that’s not a good sign when meeting a right-heavy Brewers team. Don’t be surprised if guys like Keston Hiura and Avisail Garcia end up producing at the plate tonight. Meanwhile, Yelich has three homers in 19 at-bats against Velasquez, and Cain is 4 for 6 against him.
PREDICTION: Brewers ML +100
Over/Under pick
While Velasquez isn’t an inspiring option for the Phillies in this one, Philadelphia should similarly be able to get some runs in against Houser. Lefties like Bryce Harper and Didi Gregorius can easily go yard against Milwaukee’s righty, and Rhys Hoskins is a threat to homer at every plate appearance right now. He’s one of the hottest hitters in baseball at the moment, making this Over rather enticing.
