Cardinals vs Blue Jays Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

The Blue Jays offense has been relatively solid in the month of September and with a juicy pitching matchup on deck vs. Miles Mikolas, our MLB picks believe they can fly over their team total.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to complete the sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon at Rogers Centre and should have a pretty good chance at doing so against a struggling starter in Miles Mikolas.

The right-hander has not earned a win in eight straight starts and has given up a whopping 13 earned runs over his last three outings, which is why I’m picking the hosts to run up the score in my Cardinals vs Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, September 15.

Cardinals vs Blue Jays prediction

My best bet
Blue Jays team total Over 4.5 runs (+110 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
The Toronto Blue Jays broke out offensively on Saturday with a 7-2 win as Alejandro Kirk and Davis Schneider each drove in a pair of runs.

I like the Jays’ odds of pulling it off as they go head-to-head against a struggling St. Louis Cardinals starter in Miles Mikolas. The 36-year-old veteran is in the midst of his worst full season in the majors as he carries a brutal 5.55 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 29 starts.

Mikolas was terrible last month with a 6.39 ERA over five outings and hasn’t recovered in September. It looked like he might’ve turned things around after a scoreless six innings against the Brewers on August 22 but his performance immediately cratered again as Mikolas has allowed a combined 16 runs (13 earned) over his last three starts — a span of just 11 2/3 innings.

The right-hander was blasted for nine hits and six earned runs in just two innings by the Mariners in his most recent appearance last Sunday, so confidence will be low heading into today’s contest.

The Blue Jays have recorded 5+ runs three times in their last seven games and I suspect we’ll see another high-scoring effort again here.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Spencer Horowitz Over 0.5 RBI (+162 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Spencer Horwitz had a quiet 0-for-1 day at the plate on Saturday with three walks but the 26-year-old continues to see the ball well. He leads the Blue Jays with a .375 average in September and an incredible 1.228 OPS.

He should have plenty of opportunity to drive in runs vs. Mikolas, who’s allowed 7+ hits in eight of his last 10 starts.

Cardinals vs Blue Jays moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • The Blue Jays opened as the favorite once again, this time coming in at –119. Betting was already pushing that number up across the board by Saturday evening, with Toronto sitting as high as –133.
  • The Blue Jays have done pretty well as the favorite this season, going 42-30 in that position.
  • Our total opened at 8.5 runs as today’s pitching matchup between Yariel Rodriguez and Miles Mikolas is likely calling for fireworks. The Over is 5-1 in Mikolas’ last six starts.
