Tylor Megill (1-1, 2.68 ERA): Megill has really performed at a high level since entering this Mets rotation. The 26-year-old did give up four earned runs in his last trip to the hill, but he had given up one or fewer earned runs in each of his previous five starts. He doesn’t go out there and work deep into games, but that’s not an issue. New York is in pretty much every game he pitches, which is why the team is 6-2 in his eight starts.
Ranger Suarez (5-3, 1.04 ERA): Suarez made his first start of the season against the Washington Nationals on August 2, but the lefty was really just the first pitcher to get the ball in what was a bullpen game for Philadelphia. Suarez pitched three shutout innings in that one, and he only threw 33 pitches. It’ll be interesting to see if this game will be more of the same or not.

The righty is 0-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three road starts this year, and he just had a lot of trouble in his most recent start against the Miami Marlins. Now, he has to face a Phillies team that is 11th in the league in RBIs against right-handed pitching. Philadelphia is also in the top half of the league in on-base plus slugging, and this red-hot lineup will be looking forward to facing a relatively green starter.
The Phillies have Suarez taking the ball first in this game, and the lefty gets to face a Mets lineup that isn’t all that great against southpaws. Suarez won’t pitch for long in this game, but he can really give Philly a great chance by going four or five innings in this one. The last time he pitched, he threw just three innings and there were some hiccups the rest of the way. However, this Phillies bullpen has been a little better as of late and should be decent behind Suarez.

The Phillies are coming off a game in which they scored only four runs. That was the first time Philadelphia has scored fewer than five runs in each of the last six games, but the team now has a chance to get right back to it against Megill.
There’s no reason to believe that this Phillies lineup can’t break through against the righty, especially with the way Bryce Harper is swinging the bat right now. Meanwhile, the Mets offense should be just fine against a Phillies bullpen that might be improving but still isn’t all that impressive.
