The Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals wrap up their three-game set with the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon after both clubs took one game apiece.

Jays starter Chris Bassitt will try to turn things around after a couple of missteps in recent starts while Nats pitcher Patrick Corbin is in the midst of his best month of the season.

Find out which pitcher will give their team the edge in our Nationals vs. Blue Jays MLB betting picks for Wednesday, August 30.

Nationals vs Blue Jays odds

Nationals vs Blue Jays predictions

Starting pitching cost the Toronto Blue Jays in Tuesday’s game as Jose Berrios was rocked for six hits and five runs over six innings in a 5-4 loss. Keibert Ruiz (3 RBI) and Carter Kieboom (2 RBI) each had homers to account for all five of Washington’s runs in the win.

Toronto will be hoping for a better performance out of Chris Bassitt today, though their wishes may not come true. The right-hander hasn’t been able to find much consistency of late, giving up four earned runs in three of his last five starts while posting a 4.40 ERA over that span.

The long ball has also terrorized Bassitt as he’s given up a home run in six straight starts, including two in his last outing. The Washington Nationals aren’t necessarily a home run team, but they do have six bombs collectively over the past week and it could be another rough outing for the Jays starter if they smash a couple more today.

Patrick Corbin, on the other hand, has finally found his rhythm for Washington at the tail end of a pretty rocky season.

The southpaw gave up three earned runs in his last outing against the Yankees on August 24 but he’s carrying a 2.70 ERA through four starts this month thanks to a couple of quality starts against the Red Sox and Phillies where he allowed just one run combined over 11 innings.

That said, I think we’ll see the Nationals get to Bassitt in the first couple of innings and put up some runs early.

My best bet: Nationals first team to score (-110 at SIA)

Nationals vs Blue Jays same-game parlay

Nationals first team to score (-105)

Joey Meneses to record 2+ total bases (+120)

Davis Schneider to record an RBI (+175)

Along with Washington opening the scoring, we’re going to round out today’s same-game parlay by focusing on a couple of hot hitters in Joey Meneses and Davis Schneider.

Meneses extended his hit streak to six games in Tuesday’s win with a single but he had recorded multiple bases in each of the four contests prior — look for him to rack up at least a couple bases against Bassitt.

I’ll also look for Schneider to keep his incredible hot streak going with another RBI. The rookie was called up earlier this month and has driven in a run in five straight games, with a home run and two RBI in last night’s contest.

Nationals vs Blue Jays moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Blue Jays once again come into today’s game as the huge home favorite, opening at -228 on the moneyline with the Nationals getting +206 as the road dog. While Toronto might have a slight edge on paper, I don’t see the Jays as the huge favorite given the pitching matchup and how well the Nats have played recently.

Washington is 6-3 over its last nine contests while Toronto is 2-5 through its last seven, with the Nationals having won six of their last eight meetings against the Blue Jays. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Corbin gives them the edge through the first five or six innings over a struggling Bassitt.

Today’s total opened at 8.5 runs and I think the Over is the safe play. The Over has cashed in six of the last seven meetings between the two clubs, five of Washington’s last seven games, and each of Toronto’s last four contests.

Starters have struggled in this series with the teams combining for at least six runs through the first five innings of both matchups and I think we’ll see a similar story today.

Starting pitchers

Patrick Corbin (9-11, 4.70 ERA): Corbin’s stat line certainly isn’t pretty but the left-hander pitched two of his best performances of the season earlier this month, holding the Red Sox to one run over six innings on August 17 while shutting out the Phillies over five innings on August 10. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a game since July.

Chris Bassitt (12-7, 4.00 ERA): Bassitt had another sour performance last time out, giving up seven hits and four earned runs over 5 2/3 innings to the Guardians on August 25. The right-hander has surrendered at least three runs in three straight games and four of his last five outings.
