The New York Yankees have won four games in a row and six of their last seven heading into this meeting with the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. The Yankees have also scored a total of 22 runs over their last two games, so they’re clearly starting to get hot at the plate.

The Yankees opened at -250 in this meeting with the Orioles, and they’re up to -275 on one sportsbook as of early Wednesday morning. The run line, which opened at -120, is also moving rather quickly. New York bettors would have to pay -130 odds on the 1.5-run spread in some places.
The total in this game opened at 8 and the juice is on the Over right now. One sportsbook has it at 8.5 now, and it wouldn’t be surprising if others followed suit.

Orioles vs Yankees betting preview
Starting pitchers
Tyler Wells (0-2, 6.75 ERA): ERA): Wells pitched four innings of scoreless ball against the Yankees on April 16, but he has given up six earned runs in his other two outings this year. He did that in just four total innings of work, so this isn’t exactly a guy that the Orioles will feel great about having on the mound against a New York team that appears to have woken up offensively.
Jordan Montgomery (0-1, 2.51 ERA): Montgomery threw five shutout innings in his last start against the Orioles, but Baltimore ended up earning a 2-1 win over New York in extra innings. Still, the lefty has given up just one earned run over his last 11 innings of work and should be able to get some more run support this time around. Montgomery has turned into one of this team’s most reliable pitchers in recent years.

Run line analysis
Wells shut the Yankees out through four innings in his last outing against them, but that’s not likely to happen again on Wednesday. For starters, New York is now extremely familiar with how the 27-year-old operates on the hill, so the team shouldn’t be thrown off by his approach this time around.
This also happens to be a road game, and the big righty has struggled on the road this year, allowing all six of his earned runs in his four innings away from home. On top of that, the Yankees offense is on a tear over the last two games. It has taken a little longer than expected for New York to wake up, but these players should be excited to get out there and face Wells again.
Anthony Rizzo, who homered three times in Tuesday’s win, is going to be a player to watch out for again in this one. The lefty slugger is just seeing the ball extremely well right now, and he’ll look to poke another one over the short right field fence here. Another guy to keep an eye on is DJ LeMahieu, who again looks to have regained his form from 2019 and 2020 when he was the Yankees' most dangerous hitter. He’s batting .339 with two homers and seven RBIs this season, and he’ll look to set the tone for New York’s offense here.
As for Montgomery, the lefty dominated this Orioles lineup in his last meeting with them, and he now returns to Yankee Stadium for a night game. Last season, Montgomery was 6-3 with a 3.00 ERA when pitching in the evening, and he also had a 3.33 ERA in his five starts against the Orioles last year. This is just a good matchup for the 29-year-old, who should help the Yankees cruise to a win.
Overall, this is a good game to back New York on the run line. The value on the moneyline isn’t there, and the Yankees are very capable of winning this one comfortably.
Prediction: Yankees -1.5 (-120 at DraftKings)
Over/Under analysis
It’s a little surprising to see the total so low in a game in which the Orioles will be sending Wells to the mound against any Yankees starter besides Gerrit Cole. Wells pitched well in his last meeting with New York, but he has been an absolute disaster in road games to start the year.
Now, he needs to take on a Yankees team that has scored 22 runs over the last two contests. Four different Yankees have homered in that span, with Rizzo having four of his own. Meanwhile, Montgomery is a good option for New York, but he’s the type of guy that the Yankees will just be hoping for a quality start out of. He shouldn’t completely shut Over bettors down here.
The Over has now hit in each of New York’s last three games, and it’s also 4-1 in the last five games that Baltimore has played. Also, since the start of last season, the Orioles have played 70 games against teams that outscore their opponents by at least 0.5 runs per game. The average total runs scored in those contests was 10.3 runs per game.
Prediction: Over 8 (-115 at DraftKings)
Best bet
At some point in the near future, Rizzo is going to have to slow down. The 32-year-old enters this game on a six-game hitting streak, and he also happens to have homered four times in the last two games. There just aren’t many hitters on the planet that are hotter than him right now, and Rizzo just looks more comfortable than ever playing in New York. With that said, we don’t expect him to struggle here.
Rizzo is an extremely experienced hitter and knows how to make pitchers uncomfortable. He should be able to do just that against a young starter that could be rattled pitching in Yankee Stadium. Look for Rizzo to get at least one hit, which would allow you to easily hit the Over on his total bases prop.
Pick: Anthony Rizzo Over 0.5 total bases (-149 at Caesars)
