Today we're backing two surging offenses that are colliding in Oakland, while also betting on a pair of AL Cy Young candidates. Here are our best free MLB prop picks and predictions for Friday, July 2, 2021.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Boston vs Oakland First 5 Innings Over 4.5 (-103)

The Boston Red Sox take the American League's best record to Oakland for a three-game set this weekend. The BoSox are second in the majors in scoring with 5.18 runs per game and have raised that number to 5.54 over the last 30 days.

They'll need to score some runs if they want to win tonight with Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound. The lefty has pitched to a 6.79 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in his last 11 starts. More importantly for bettors, the Over has gone 7-0 in Rodriguez's previous seven starts.

The A's have also sizzled at the dish lately, plating 5.38 runs per game in the month of June. And they'll be sending Frankie Montas and his 4.72 ERA and .262 OBA to the mound.

Expect some fireworks this Fourth of July weekend between these two clubs that mash at the plate but have struggling starters. Back the Over 4.5 on the first five innings total tonight.

Lance Lynn Over 6.5 strikeouts (-120)

The Detroit Tigers have won seven of their last 10 games but could find themselves in trouble this weekend as they host the AL Central-leading White Sox.

The Sox will send big right-hander Lance Lynn to the mound on Friday and he's making a strong case for the AL Cy Young Award this season, especially with Gerrit Cole's recent struggles. Lynn is 7-3 with a 2.06 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 90 strikeouts through 78 2-3 innings.

In his previous outing against the Mariners, Lynn fanned four batters through three innings of shutout ball before that game was postponed due to rain. Prior to that, he fanned six batters in four innings against the Astros before tightness forced him to leave the game early. In his two starts before that he logged eight strikeouts against the Rays and nine Ks versus the Blue Jays.

Today Lynn matches up against a Tigers lineup that has an OPS of .688 and strikes out 9.86 times per game, second-most in the majors. Take the Over on Lynn's strikeouts total.

Seattle Team Total Under 3.5 (+107)

Texas Rangers starter Kyle Gibson has been an absolute revelation this year after an ominous start to the season. The right-hander was shredded for five runs in the first inning of his season debut against the Royals but has been lights out ever since.

In 14 starts since that ugly outing, Gibson has pitched to a microscopic 1.51 ERA with a WHIP of 0.94 through 89 2-3 innings. And it isn't like he's been mowing down cupcakes. Eight of those 14 starts came against top-hitting teams like the Astros, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Giants, and White Sox — and he had a 1.65 ERA in those games.

Tonight, Gibson and the Rangers get to face off against the Mariners at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The Mariners are dead-last in the majors in OPS at home (.648), while plating 3.95 runs per game. Bet the Under on their team total.
