There is a relatively small slate of eight games on the MLB betting board today, but if you dive into the baseball prop betting market, there are still hundreds of wagering options to dig into.
Today, we back a team that has lost three in a row, fade a struggling starter in an NL East battle, and put our money down on one of this season's best sluggers in Salvador Perez.
Here are our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Thursday, September 9.
Today’s MLB props and picks
First 5 Innings Cleveland -0.5 (+100)
The Cleveland Indians host the Minnesota Twins as -135 home favorites today as they try to avoid a four-game sweep. The Indians mustered just two runs across the previous three games but they should be poised to break out of that slump tonight as they face off against Twins starter Randy Dobnak.
Dobnak has a brutal 7.64 ERA with an opponent batting average of .310 in 50 2-3 innings this season and has surrendered at least five earned runs in four of his last six starts.
Despite their hitting woes during this series, the Tribe have actually been impressive at the plate over the last 15 days, ranking ninth in the majors with an OPS of .768. Over that same span, the Twins rank just 24th in the majors with an OPS of .676.
Cleveland will send Cal Quantrill to the hill, and the 26-year-old has looked very sharp since mid-July, pitching to a 2.07 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP in his last 10 starts. Expect Cleveland to have the lead after five innings.
Salvador Perez Over 0.5 RBI (-105)
Kansas City catcher Salvador Perez continued his fantastic year with a solo home run last night. The Royals might be having a forgettable season but Perez has been incredible, slugging 42 homers with 104 RBI and an OPS of .864 through 138 games.
Perez has been on fire lately, mashing nine dingers and driving in 23 runs over the last 15 days. Today, Perez and the Royals will be wrapping up a three-game set at Camden Yards, which is one of the friendliest parks in the majors for right-handed sluggers.
The Orioles will send John Means to the mound and the southpaw has a 5.01 ERA while allowing opposing batters to slug .519 in nine starts at home this season.
Perez has feasted against southpaws like Means, slashing .309/.346/.664 against left-handed pitchers this year. Bet on Perez to drive in at least one run tonight.
Atlanta Team Total Over 5.5 (+105)
The Atlanta Braves are one of the more productive offensive teams in the majors, especially at home, where they have an OPS of .768 and plate 5.12 runs per game.
Today the Braves host the Washington Nationals and starting pitcher Erick Fedde who has struggled this season, pitching to a 5.27 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP and an opponent batting average of .275 through 23 starts.
Fedde is coming off back-to-back starts against a mediocre Mets lineup where he surrendered 17 hits and 13 runs (nine earned) in just 8 1-3 innings.
He has also been brutal against Atlanta this year, giving up 19 hits and 14 earned runs in 11 1-3 innings across three starts. Take the Over on the Braves team total of 5.5.
