The Toronto Blue Jays will try to complete their first series sweep since late May when they finish off a three-game set against the Texas Rangers this afternoon.

The Jays’ bats have come alive this series and will need to show up in a big way as Jose Berrios takes the mound for Toronto with a 7.78 ERA through four starts this month.

My Rangers vs. Blue Jays predictions expect plenty of offense, with the Over 8.5 highlighting my MLB picks for this July 28 tilt.

Rangers vs Blue Jays prediction

My best bet
Over 8.5 (-122 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Daulton Varsho led the way offensively for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday with a three-run jack. It was the fourth straight meeting in which these clubs combined for at least 10 runs, and I’ll be looking for the same to happen this afternoon by taking the Over on 8.5.

Jose Berrios has had a rough go of late for the Jays, currently in the midst of his worst month of the season. The RHP owns a massive 7.78 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP over his last four starts, having surrendered at least three earned runs in each of those outings while pitching into the sixth inning just once.

While the Texas Rangers bats have been relatively quiet in the second half, scoring 35 runs in nine games (16th), they should be able to get to a struggling Berrios.

Texas isn't a particularly powerful team with just 110 homers on the season (18th), but it'll have a chance to flex its muscle against Berrios, whose 22 home runs allowed are tied for the most in the majors.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+140 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did everything but drive in an RBI during Saturday’s win as he went 3-for-5 with a double and extended his hit streak to nine games. The Jays slugger has now gone three games straight without an RBI, and I think he’s due to start producing.

Vladdy is batting .464 since the All-Star break — the third-best average in the majors. Despite his massive .964 slugging percentage over that span (fourth), he’s got just seven RBI to show for it, which is likely a product of bad luck more than anything.

Toronto has been hitting the ball well as a team this series, so Guerrero Jr. should have plenty of chances to knock in a run or two this afternoon.
