After getting rained out on Friday, the Rangers and Yankees will play a doubleheader this Saturday in the Bronx.

The top team in the American League Wild Card race, New York is a -155 favorite in the moneyline odds for Game 1, with first pitch going at 1:05 p.m. ET.

These teams have kept their head-to-head scores low of late, but the pitching matchup has our Rangers vs. Yankees predictions and free MLB picks heading the other way on August 10.

Rangers vs Yankees prediction

My best bet
Over 8.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis

It’s going to take some kind of homestretch surge for the defending World Series champs to even make a run at the Wild Card in the AL. The Texas Rangers have lost four straight straight series, dropping nine of their last 12, and are now a whopping nine games back of the Royals for the final playoff spot.

Their pitching has been a mess, sporting an inflated 6.45 ERA over the last 15 days, the second-worst figure in the majors over that span. Teams are also hitting an absurd .308 against them during this skid, easily the worst mark in baseball.

Texas turns the ball over to Nathan Eovaldi in Game 1, and the righty is trying to rebound after getting bombed for seven hits and five earned runs, including a pair of home runs, in five innings of work as part of a 7-2 loss to the Red Sox. The last time he faced an offense as potent as New York’s was July 19, and he was lit on fire by the Baltimore Orioles and chased after five innings, eight hits, six earned runs, and three homers.

While Texas has struggled, the New York Yankees keep churning. Over the last 15 days, they are Top 5 in runs scored and batting average at a sharp .290 clip. They’ve also belted the second-most homers in this span with 24. It’s a big reason they’ve picked up wins in eight of their last 11 overall.

New York sends lefty Carlos Rodon to the bump, but he’s been picked up frequently by the Yankee offense rather than the other way around, helping him to a 12-7 record. He gave up three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings last time out against Toronto but took the W in an 8-3 decision.

Rodon has improved his ERA from a whopping 7.76 in June to 4.05 in July, but he’s far from a sure thing. He’s tied for the third-most homers allowed with 24, and he’s been tagged deep in eight straight games.

In his last 12 starts, the Yankees and their opponents have topped 10 runs eight times. Texas has seen the run total touch nine in eight of Eovaldi’s last 11 starts.

Rangers vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5

Aaron Judge Over 1.5 total bases

Giancarlo Stanton Over 1.5 total bases

Let’s roll with a couple of Yankees in the heart of the order as we fill out our SGP.

Aaron Judge went hitless in the series finale against the Angels on Thursday, but that’s a slight blip on what’s been a very productive August. Judge had gone five straight games with at least a base hit, and three of those games were of the multi-hit variety.

He’s had his way with Eovaldi, hitting .353 in 32 at-bats, with a pair of home runs and doubles as part of the damage. Judge is hitting .326 at home this season, with 30 extra base hits. He should clear a couple of total bases on Saturday, and so should Giancarlo Stanton.

The Yankees DH has also tattooed Eovaldi, hitting .316 against him in 38 at-bats, including four home runs and 11 RBI. While he’s gone 10 games without a homer, Stanton does have hits in four of his last five games and 14 of his last 17.

Stanton has picked up at least two total bases in eight of those games and is a good flier to make it nine against the Rangers’ starter.
