Red Sox vs Braves Predictions, Picks, Odds: Lineups Relish Soft Pitching Matchup

The Red Sox and Braves lineups have to be licking their chops ahead of this game, as the underwhelming Brayan Bello goes against the Atlanta bullpen, which fills in for the ailing Max Fried. Our MLB betting picks won't be scared off by this high total.

The Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves wrap up a quick two-game interleague series at Truist Field in suburban Atlanta on Wednesday night.

The Red Sox were belted 9-3 in Tuesday’s series opener, as the Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead and piled up 12 hits, leading wire to wire.

The Braves have won three straight games, all against American League opponents, and six of seven contests overall.

Can the Red Sox even the interleague season series, or will the Braves complete the abbreviated series sweep? We’ll discuss in our MLB picks and predictions for Red Sox vs. Braves on Wednesday, May 10.

Red Sox vs Braves odds

Red Sox vs Braves predictions

The Red Sox were humming along on offense from late April into early May, winning eight straight games, while posting five or more runs in each of the victories.

However, what goes up must come down, and the BoSox have managed a total of just four runs in the past two outings, while yielding 15 runs in the pair of losses.

The Braves have rattled off victories in each of the past three games, averaging 5.7 runs per game during the run.

Like Boston, the Atlanta offense has been red-hot, and it isn’t showing signs of slowing down. The Braves piled up 12 hits in the victory Tuesday, and Atlanta has totaled 91 runs across the past 14 games, which is good for a 6.5 runs per game since April 24, a solid sustained stretch.

The Red Sox turn to RHP Brayan Bello to snap the team back on track. Boston has won each of his past three outings, although he has just one win to show for his efforts.

Bello has also allowed exactly one homer in each of his four outings, and he has posted a subpar 5.71 ERA across 17 1/3 IP in his four outings to date. In his only start on the road, he allowed three runs and five hits with two walks in just 4 2/3 innings in Milwaukee on April 23.

Bello’s propensity for allowing the long ball, coupled with the fact the Braves have averaged 6.5 runs per game across the past 14 games, means you should look to the Over in this series finale.

Red Sox vs Braves moneyline analysis

The Red Sox are still 8-2 across the past 10 outings despite suffering setbacks in each of the previous two road contests.

Boston has won six of the past eight as an underdog, while going a respectable 5-5 across the past 10 games on the road. And in interleague play, the Red Sox have a winning record so far this season, going 4-3 in seven tries.

As far as Atlanta is concerned, the Braves have won three in a row, and six of the past seven games overall. Atlanta has also won six of the past eight outings at Truist Park.

The Braves have managed a 6-1 record over their last seven games as a favorite straight up, although they have covered the run line just twice in the past six as a favorite.

In interleague play, Atlanta has cashed in three straight, and the Braves are 6-4 in 10 contests against American League foes this season.

The Braves were indecisive on the starting pitching due to Max Fried landing on the injured list — a bullpen game appears to be in the offing. The slight lean is to the Red Sox on the moneyline, although the Over is still the better play.

Red Sox vs Braves Over/Under analysis

Both of these teams have been plating a lot of runs lately, and the pitching matchup isn’t exactly a battle of Cy Young contenders. Even with the wind blowing in slightly from the left-center field power alley, we should see a healthy amount of runs between these two offenses playing with a lot of confidence lately.

Masataka Yoshida and Ozzie Albies have been swinging hot bats for their respective clubs. Yoshida is hitting .480 with two homers and eight RBI in May for Boston (despite taking an 0-for-5 last night), while Albies is hitting .350 with two homers and four RBI this month.

The Over is 6-1-1 in the past eight games overall for the Red Sox, and Boston has allowed 5.2 runs per game across the past eight outings. Boston has plated 6.3 runs across the previous 10 contests, too. That’s a recipe for an Over result on Wednesday.

For the Bravos, they’re on a 5-1 Over run in the past six games overall, with the offense averaging 5.9 runs per game in the previous 10 outings. Again, the Over is the best play on the board here.

Date: Wednesday, May 10, 2023
First pitch: 7:20 p.m. ET

Starting pitchers

Brayan Bello (1-1, 5.71 ERA): The Red Sox righty has been chopping down his ERA ever so slightly after getting pounded for five runs in just 2 2/3 innings in his initial appearance. Still, he hasn’t had a quality start, and the Over has cashed in all four of his outings to date.

Pitcher TBA: The Braves have yet to announce a starter for this game.
