Corbin Carroll Odds and Props World Series Game 2: Star Rookie Runs Wild on the Basepaths

The Fall Classic got off to a roaring start on Friday with a walk-off home run in extra innings off the bat of Adolis Garcia. While many starred in that game, Arizona Diamondbacks lead man Corbin Carroll was particularly critical in the MLB odds, mustering up a two-run triple in the third.

Sure, Corbin Carroll got off to a rocky start in the NLCS, but by the time it was over, he’d brought his postseason average back to .295. He’s now managed a hit in each of his past four games, racking up three in a Game 7 win over the Phillies, and his lone hit in Game 2 of the World Series went for extra bases.

He should be more than capable of reaching base during Game 2, matching up incredibly well against Texas Rangers left-hander Jordan Montgomery. Carroll was a .283 hitter against lefties during his first full season in the bigs and the Arizona Diamondbacks star is going to see a lot of sinkers from Montgomery. The rookie outfielder boasts a .370 batting average against the pitch this year.

However, considering Carroll's struggles against the changeup — Montgomery’s secondary pitch — I don’t feel confident enough here that he is going to collect more than one total base. Instead, I'm going to target Carroll to do damage with his baserunning speed. 

He’s stolen four bases this postseason and is one of the very fastest players in the game. Carroll should also get a bit of help from Montgomery, who is somewhat slow to the plate and has allowed a 69.2% success rate on the basepaths.

I covered above that I like Carroll to get on base here — likely via a hit — so I’ll throw that in here with his stolen base prop. He’s working on a four-game hitting streak and should match up brilliantly with Montgomery’s arsenal.

Ultimately, I like the Rangers to prevail again in Game 2. Merrill Kelly has managed two good starts this postseason, but that’s been thanks to plenty of strikeouts. Texas is better than the league average in that regard and I think with a lot of fly balls coming back into play, the Rangers should once again find the seats for some big homers.

Mix in the fact that the bullpen has been worked to the bone already, and I expect the home side to come away with the victory here behind their superior offense.
