Joel Embiid and the Sixers are looking to keep pace with the Nets atop the East standings, and have a good spot to do so tonight against a struggling and short-handed Pelicans squad.

Betting trend to know

Against the spread (ATS) pick

The Sixers are coming off an impressive 10-point road win over the Celtics, and the team has now won three of its last four games. Boston obviously isn’t in a great place at the moment, but it’s still a win that will give Philadelphia some momentum coming into this one. This also happens to be an unbelievable matchup for the Sixers.

The Pelicans have the third-worst defensive rating in the NBA this season, and they allow more threes per game than anybody in the entire league. That’s not a recipe for success against this Philadelphia group. The Sixers are second in the league in defensive rating, so they are liable to make things tough on New Orleans’ offense. Philadelphia also has guys like Seth Curry and Danny Green, who are both more than capable of taking advantage of any Pelicans mistakes that leave them open.

Another thing to keep in mind here is that Joel Embiid is as good as it gets as an interior defender. Nobody in the NBA is really capable of stopping Zion Williamson, but Embiid has the size to deter some of his rim attempts. That should make a difference in this one.

PREDICTION: Sixers -7.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

Four of Philadelphia’s last five games have gone Under the total, but four of New Orleans’ last five have gone Over. Something’s going to have to give in this one, but the Over is the better way to go. The Pelicans just aren’t good enough defensively to contain anybody right now, even a mediocre Sixers offense.

Look for Ben Simmons and Embiid to really impose their wills on this game, and the role players should follow through with some solid performances of their own. Meanwhile, the Pelicans might not be at full strength in this one, but this team can always score a lot of points.

PREDICTION: Over 227.5 (-110)

Player prop pick

As previously mentioned, the Pelicans have had trouble defending the three-point line this season. That means that Curry is going to be a dangerous player in a game like this one. On the season, Curry is shooting 41.6 percent from the outside, and that’s despite a recent cold streak.

Curry is just 4 for 15 from three over the last three games, but he’s too good of a shooter to stay down for long. He should be able to snap out of it in this one.

PREDICTION: Seth Curry Over 10.5 Points (-122)
