Clippers vs Wizards picks and predictions
Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.
Spread analysis
The Clippers had won two of three and covered in three straight before losing by eight against the New York Knicks on Sunday. Still, Los Angeles has played rather well of late, and this team has not had much trouble going on the road and staying competitive despite being without its two best players. Don’t expect that to change when then the Clippers head to the Wizards, even with Washington's rotation at full strength.
While the Wizards are certainly the more talented team — with Bradley Beal being, by far, the best player on the court with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George sidelined — this Washington team has lost four of its last five games and has failed to cover in nine of 10. The Wizards are not executing an effective game plan, and they’ve lacked discipline on both ends of the floor.
Clippers guard Reggie Jackson is a player to keep an eye on. He’s been scorching hot and could have another big game against this mediocre Wizards defensive backcourt. Jackson has scored at least 26 points in three of his last four games.
Washington happens to be just 7-15 against the spread when playing as a favorite this season. Meanwhile, the Clippers are 22-8 against the spread in road games with a total between 210 and 219.5 since the start of last season.
Prediction: Clippers +5 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
Not too long ago, the Clippers were playing in nothing but low-scoring games, but that has drastically changed. Los Angeles has now gone Over in three of its last four contests, and two of those games saw combined scores of at least 258 points. While that’s not exactly sustainable, it is hard to ignore the fact that this Clippers team has lost something defensively without George, who is one of the game’s best two-way players.
Los Angeles, which is sixth in defensive rating on the year, is just 18th in over the last 10 games. That should help Washington get its fair share of points, but it'll be a two-way street.
The Wizards rank 22nd in defensive efficiency on the season and allow 109.9 points per game (20th). With the Clippers playing a more offensive-minded game and the Wizards allowing at least 110 points in eight of 12 since the new year, this game is trending to the Over.
Prediction: Over 217.5 (-110)
Best bet
Jackson is playing really well for the Clippers coming into this game, as he’s averaging 24.8 points and 7.3 assists per game over the last four games. The 31-year-old has had at least five assists in each of his last three games, and he's handling primary playmaking duties for Los Angeles right now — he’s 35th in the league in usage rate this year.
With the Clippers facing the Wizards in a game that’s expected to be high-scoring, Jackson should easily eclipse his assists total set at 4.5, assuming his usage stays in line with his recent surge. And the value is certainly there, as doing so would pay at plus money.
Pick: Reggie Jackson Over 4.5 Assists (+130)
