The Toronto Raptors continued their impressive run of basketball with an overtime win over the Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Bulls.

The Raps won’t have much time to bask in the victory, though, as they’ll play the second half of a back-to-back when they host the Atlanta Hawks tonight.

Can newly named All-Star Fred VanVleet lead Toronto to another win and cover over Trae Young and the Hawks?

Hawks vs Raptors picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

Spread analysis

The Raptors' impressive run continued with a 127-120 overtime victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Bulls last night. It was Toronto’s fourth win, and cover, in a row while basically playing only five guys. But the Raptors have been playing well for over a month, ranking 10th in net rating since the start of 2022.

One of those four wins came against this same Hawks team back on Monday, 106-101 as 2.5-point road favorites. But the Hawks were missing a piece some would consider fairly important, as Trae Young sat that one out with a shoulder injury.

The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Hawks, but Young returned in a big way in Atlanta’s next game as he put up a massive 43 points in a 124-115 win over one of the best teams in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns.

It was a return to form for a Hawks team that ranks fourth in offensive rating over their last nine games. But while Young is back, forward John Collins and reserve guard Lou Williams are questionable for this matchup.

All things considered, this is a really tough game to handicap. Both teams are playing well. Both are playing on a back-to-back. The Raptors play a very short rotation, while the Hawks have better depth, but have some injury concerns. In a game as close as this, we’ll lean towards taking the points with the underdog.

Prediction: Hawks +3 (-110)

Over/Under analysis

While the side in this Eastern Conference clash may be difficult to figure out, the total seems to have a much more solid play.

As noted, the Hawks' offense is flying right now. Not only are they fourth in offensive rating, but they rank first in effective field goal percentage, and in their last eight games with Young in the lineup are putting up 120 points per game.

And while the Raptors' defense has been solid in 2022, their aggressive style of play can lead to open threes if their opponents move the ball well, and as a result, the Raps rank 24th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. That’s not a recipe for success against a Hawks team that is second in the Association in 3-point percentage.

The Raptors offense on the other hand has really settled in thanks to the play of Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and more recently, Gary Trent Jr. In fact, the Raps rank ninth in offensive rating since Jan. 1, putting up 110.3 points per game. With the Hawks ranked 27th in defensive rating, the Raps should do their part to send this one Over.

Prediction: Over 217.5 (-110)

Best bets

The Over makes the cut as a best bet for this game, but we’re not stopping there. We’re going back to the well for more Gary Trent Jr. threes.

Trent had a bit of an off night against the Bulls, going just 3 for 8 from 3-point range and putting up 16 points, ending a streak of 31 or more points while hitting at least five threes in five consecutive games. But we’re betting Trent gets back on track against the Hawks.

They rank 20th in opponent 3pt% and Trent is still shooting 47.7% from deep on 10.8 attempts over his last eight games, nailing at least four in six of those. That includes hitting a stupid nine in the last meeting against the Hawks. And it’s not like Trae Young is improving Atlanta’s defense.

Bet on Trent to hit the Over on his made threes again. Especially at plus money.

Pick: Over 217.5 (-110)

Pick: Gary Trent Jr. Over 3.5 made threes (+105)
