My analysis
One day Domantas Sabonis will stop being underrated, but that day isn’t today. The 28-year-old is about as good as it gets when it comes to running up his PRA numbers, and he’s off to a hot start through three games.
After being an All-Star snub last year while averaging 19.4 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per contest, Sabonis has spent a little more time scoring this year. He’s averaging 23 points, 11 boards, and six dimes, putting up a 29-point triple-double last week against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Now he’s set to feast on a lowly Utah Jazz team that seems to think defense is optional in the NBA. After ranking last in defensive rating (120.4) and allowing the second-most points per game in the league last year (120.5), not much has changed in Will Hardy’s third season at the helm.
Utah is 0-3 this season and sits 26th in defensive rating (117.7) while allowing the third-most points in the NBA (121.0). So is John Collins, of all people, really going to be the guy to slow down Sabonis?
The Jazz’s power forward has the fifth-worst defensive rating of any player in the league playing 20+ minutes per game (123.8).
Not only is Utah struggling to stop opponents from scoring, but it’s allowing the most assists per game in the league (30.0) and the fifth-most rebounds (50.3).
Last season, Sabonis finished with Over 37.5 points, rebounds, and assists in over 60% of his games. But these odds imply a 53.49% probability he’ll top the number against Utah, making this a great value play.
This is the perfect team for Sabonis to flex his all-around ability on, and if you’re feeling extra confident in him stuffing the stat sheet, he’s +500 to record a triple-double.

Sabonis isn’t the only skilled big man poised for a strong showing in this matchup. For as bad as Utah has been, Lauri Markkanen continues to thrive in the Beehive State.
He’s been shooting lights out this season, hitting 47.1% from behind the arc and averaging 2.7 made threes per game. That’s after putting together his best season from deep last year, hitting 39.9%.
Markkanen has already hit Over 2.5 threes in two of three games this season and did it in 33 of 55 games last year (60%). Plus, Sacramento’s perimeter defense was a problem last season — the Sacramento Kings allowed the second-highest three-point percentage to opponents (38.7%).
With both big men set to thrive, expect to see plenty of points scored in this matchup. The Jazz are a perfect team to bet the Over because of their lackadaisical defense and ability to score on offense.
