Kings vs Timberwolves Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Gobert Conquers Kings on Both Ends of the Floor

The Sacramento Kings face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves in NBA action on Friday night. There's a youth movement out west with the Timberwolves atop the conference standings with a 42-17 record and Sacramento poised to return to the playoffs for the second straight season after a 15-year absence.

However, oddsmakers expect the Kings to come up short tonight with NBA odds installing the T-Wolves as 6.5-point home favorites. Here are my best free NBA picks and predictions for Kings vs. Timberwolves for Friday, March 1.

The leading scorers for both teams are listed as questionable but with NBA player props available for both De'Aaron Fox and Anthony Edwards, expect both to suit up. But even if Fox and Edwards each end up playing, don't expect a high-scoring contest tonight. 

While the Sacramento Kings have plenty of shootouts at home where they average 121.6 points per game and surrender 120.8, they see much lower totals in away contests. In fact, road games for the Kings have seen an average of 230.7 ppg this season. 

Now they face a Minnesota Timberwolves side that leads the NBA in opponent field goal percentage (44.8%) and scoring defense (106.3 ppg). Those numbers get even better at the Target Center, where they hold opponents to just 102.4 ppg on 42.4% shooting.

Another reason to like the Under is that both teams do a great job on the defensive glass (the Kings lead the league in defensive rebounding rate while T-Wolves are fourth) but are below average when it comes to rebounding on offense.

The Kings take a ton of shots from beyond the arc with their 3-point rate of 43.5% the fourth-highest in the league. While they shoot a sizzling 38.7% from deep at home, that dips to 35.7% on the road. They'll likely struggle in that area against a T-Wolves squad that holds foes to a 32.4 3PT% in Minnesota. 

With Rudy Gobert protecting the hoop, the T-Wolves clog the paint and don't allow teams to get to the rim. Expect some scoring droughts for Sacramento and take the Under 225 here.

Fox can fill up the hoop but he's been struggling to knock down shots from beyond the arc lately. He's had Under 2.5 made 3s in 11 of his last 14 games and is shooting just 29.7% from deep over that span. With the T-Wolves allowing a league-low 10.5 treys at home this season, this leg makes too much sense here. 

Gobert is coming off a game versus the Grizzlies where he had eight points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes. However, he was limited by an ankle injury that had him listed as questionable. He's not on the IL for tonight's game and a healthy Gobert should see plenty of playing time against Kings star center Domantas Sabonis.

Before that quiet performance against Memphis, Gobert had logged a double-double in nine consecutive games. He also had 21 points and 17 boards when he previously faced Sabonis and Sacramento back in December.

Kings vs Timberwolves spread and Over/Under analysis

This line hit the board with the Timberwolves at -6.5 and the O/U at 222.5. As of 2:00 p.m. ET the spread hasn't moved but money has come in on the Over, shifting the total to as high as 225.

The Timberwolves have been one of the league's biggest surprises and have the best record in the West at 42-17 while going 22-6 at home. They are 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS in their last eight games but failed to cover as double-digit faves in each of their past two contests.

The Kings are 33-25 but they haven't been impressive lately, going 4-6 SU and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. In their last game they were missing Fox and lost 117-96 to Denver on the road.
