Lakers vs Grizzlies picks and predictions
Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.
Spread analysis
The Grizzlies are coming off of a victory over the Phoenix Suns at the Footprint Center, so it might be time for people to start taking this team a bit more seriously. Memphis has proven itself as a legitimate threat in the Western Conference, and the Grizzlies have to be feeling good about this meeting with the Lakers.
Los Angeles might have earned a victory last night, but that win came against the Houston Rockets. That certainly doesn’t undo the fact that the Lakers come into this one after having lost five of their last six, and they could also be tired with this being the second night of a back-to-back.
Also, considering how poorly the Lakers have played defensively coming into this game, it’s hard to imagine Ja Morant not carving this Los Angeles group up. The Lakers do not have anybody that can stop Morant from getting to the basket, and they also don’t have anybody that matches up well with Jaren Jackson Jr. That’s a matchup that could haunt Los Angeles with Davis still not back.
Also, Russell Westbrook could struggle in this game tonight, as he’s a turnover machine and the Grizzlies have a number of guys that get their hands on the basketball with regularity.
Prediction: Grizzlies -4.5 (-115)
Over/Under analysis
The Lakers might be coming off of a victory in their last game, but this team is still giving up a ton of points lately. Los Angeles has gone Over the total in four of its last five games, and the team has allowed 121.2 points per game in that span. With a matchup on deck against a Memphis team that is averaging 120.5 points per game over its last two contests, it’s hard to imagine the Lakers turning in a good defensive effort here.
You should probably expect this to turn into a shootout. Not only has Los Angeles played some high-scoring games as of late, but the Over is also 3-0 in Memphis’ last three games. It’s also 11-8-1 in Memphis’ home games this year and 7-3-1 in games against Pacific division opponents on the season.
Prediction: Over 227.5 (-110)
Best bet
With the line still available at 4.5, it’s a no-brainer to jump on the Grizzlies in this game. However, it’s still worth taking up to 6, if that’s all you can get. Memphis is already 2-0 against the spread in games against Los Angeles this season, and the Grizzlies beat them by 13 the last time they played.
The Grizzlies are currently sixth in the league in offensive rating and facing a Lakers team with the 25th-ranked defensive rating over the last six games. This game has the potential to get ugly, as it’s just unlikely that Los Angeles will be able to stop Memphis — especially with Davis out.
Pick: Grizzlies -4.5 (-115)
