The Phoenix Suns will be looking for a franchise-record 63 wins when they host a Los Angeles Lakers team that has lost six games in a row on Tuesday. The Suns were blown out by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, so it’ll be interesting to see how they respond here.

Will Phoenix take care of business against a Los Angeles team that essentially needs to win out in order to make the play-in tournament? Check out our Lakers vs. Suns NBA picks and predictions for Tuesday, April 5.

Phoenix was an 11.5-point favorite when this game became available, but it does seem like that line could be moving down a bit. There’s already one site that has the number at 11 as of late Tuesday morning, and that could change a bit more if LeBron James and Anthony Davis play. The total, which opened at 232.5, hasn’t moved at all.

Lakers vs Suns picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Spread analysis

The Suns have lost each of their last two games coming into this one, but they have a good opportunity to break their franchise record in regular-season wins this evening. Phoenix is hosting a Los Angeles team that has lost six games in a row, and the team is reportedly leaning towards firing Frank Vogel after the year.

Whereas most teams would be eager to go out and compete for a spot in the play-in—the Lakers are two games back with four to play—it really does seem as though Los Angeles has phoned it in.

It’s also worth noting that Phoenix is 6-0 both straight-up and against the spread in its last six games against Los Angeles, and the team just matches up very well with LeBron and Co. The Suns can throw Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder and Cam Johnson on LeBron, and all of them have the size and awareness to make things tough on the Lakers star. Meanwhile, Deandre Ayton has done a good job on Anthony Davis in the past, putting relative clamps on L.A.’s elite duo.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the floor, the Suns should pick this Lakers team apart with their unbelievable offensive approach. Chris Paul will take his time in the half court and just make the right reads in pick-and-roll plays, and Devin Booker should be able to really go off in this one. Los Angeles just doesn’t have any isolation defenders to slow him down.

The Lakers are giving up the fifth-most points per game in the league this year, and they’re just 23rd in the NBA in defensive rating. It’s best to just not overthink this one, as the Suns are third in both offensive rating and defensive rating. The numbers speak for themselves, especially against a team as dysfunctional as Los Angeles.

Prediction: Suns -11 (-110 at WynnBET)

Over/Under analysis

The Lakers and Suns combined to score 251 points when they met back on March 13, and the Over has been a regular occurrence in Los Angeles games this season, at 44-32-2. It also happens to be 8-2 in the last 10 games that the Lakers have played. The fact that Los Angeles is so lousy on the defensive end really makes it hard for the Under to hit in their games, and that will be especially true against a Phoenix team that is capable of putting up huge numbers on the scoreboard.

The Over is actually 12-2 when the Suns play in games with a total of 230 or higher this season, and the average total points scored in those games was 245.7 points per game. The Over is also 10-1 in the Lakers’ last 11 road games against teams with winning home records, and it’s 8-3 in the last 11 Suns games overall.

Prediction: Over 232.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Best bet

The last time the Suns faced the Lakers, the defending Western Conference champs put up 140 points on 56.9% shooting from the floor and 36.4% shooting from three. This Lakers defense has been a complete nightmare all season, and it’s not likely to get better with just one week remaining in what has been a disappointing season. Los Angeles is in desperation mode right now, but the team also looks to have packed it in at this point.

The Suns also happen to be coming off of back-to-back miserable losses, and they were lousy on the offensive end in both. Phoenix is too good of a team to turn in that type of performance three games in a row, so you should expect the team to bounce back and turn it back on against such a weak resistance.

Pick: Suns Team Total Over 122.5 (-110 at FanDuel)
