The Brooklyn Nets are heating up with four wins in their last six games and will look to keep it rolling as the slight road favorite against the Detroit Pistons, who have just one victory in their last 10 outings.

Despite Detroit’s struggles, Cade Cunningham continues to produce in the NBA odds, scoring 20-plus points in six of his last seven contests.

Will Cunningham have another good showing against Brooklyn? Find out in my NBA picks and predictions for Nets vs. Pistons on Thursday, March 7.

Nets vs Pistons predictions

The Detroit Pistons fell 118-110 to the Heat on Tuesday but it was another solid performance for Cade Cunningham, who scored a team-leading 23 points in the loss.

Outside of a nine-point outing against Orlando last Sunday where he played just 23 minutes, the former first-overall pick has scored at least 20 points in six of his last seven games while averaging 26.3 points per game in those contests.

On a team that lacks offensive options, Cunningham has been by far Detroit’s most active shooter, averaging 18.3 attempts from the field per game. Bojan Bogdanovic (15.2) is the only other player averaging over 12 attempts for the Pistons this season.

The Brooklyn Nets are a pretty middle-of-the-road defensive team by almost every metric, ranking 16th in points against per game (114.1), 13th in defensive rebounding percentage (76.2%), and 15th in field goal attempts against per game (88.2). There shouldn’t be too much resistance against Cunningham’s high-volume approach, so if the Pistons' point guard shoots at his usual clip, he should easily eclipse tonight's total of 21.5 points.

Cunningham torched the Nets for 41 points in their last meeting on December 26 when he shot 15-for-21 from the field. Two days prior, he dropped 22 points against Brooklyn.

My best bet: Cade Cunningham Over 21.5 points (-115 at PROLINE+)

Nets vs Pistons same-game parlay

Nets -2.5

Under 218.5

For tonight’s same-game parlay, I’ll look for the Nets to hold up as the slight road favorite and cover the 2.5-point spread, while the teams finish Under 218.5 points.

Brooklyn has covered the spread in four of its last six games, winning by at least five points in each of its four victories over that stretch. Meanwhile, Detroit has lost nine of 10 with seven of those defeats coming by six points or more.

Both teams rank in the bottom eight in terms of points per game, with Detroit averaging 112.1 and Brooklyn at 112, so we shouldn’t see much offense tonight.

Nets vs Pistons spread and Over/Under analysis

The Nets opened as the 3-point favorite on the road, with most books bringing them down to 2 or 2.5 ahead of tipoff. Despite missing Cam Thomas, Brooklyn has continued to play solid basketball, so I like them to cover the spread against a lowly Detroit team tonight.

The Nets actually had one of their best offensive games in a while without Thomas on February 29 against the Hawks, when they dropped 124 points thanks to a season-high 29 points from Cameron Johnson and 23 from Dennis Schroder. Brooklyn certainly boasts a few more offensive options than Detroit, which is a big reason why the Nets should ultimately cover tonight’s spread.

The total for this one opened at 216.5 points and has remained steady there at most books by this afternoon. With Thomas out and both clubs generally struggling to put up points this season, the Under is the play for me.

Detroit has cashed the Under in nine of its last 10 contests while averaging just 105.8 ppg over that span. Brooklyn has been even worse offensively through that stretch, scoring just 103.8 ppg dating back to February 10. The Under has also cashed in six of the Nets’ last nine games.
