Suns vs 76ers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Philly Shakes Off Durant & Co.

Joel Embiid and the Sixers are dealing with life after James Harden quite fine. The Suns? Their transition to begin the season hasn't been as smooth, which our NBA picks have an eye on for Saturday.

We get an early season showdown of NBA Finals contenders when Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers host Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in a matinee matchup this Saturday.

The NBA odds say the Suns have the better shot at a title this season, but it’s the 76ers who are favored for this game.

The Sixers are playing the better basketball early on as Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are thriving with new head coach Nick Nurse. Philly enters this game with a 3-1 record and 4-0 against the spread.

Meanwhile, Phoenix is still working things out and Bradley Beal has yet to make his debut. As a result, the team is 2-3 and is coming off consecutive losses.

Will the Suns rise to the occasion as underdogs, or will the Sixers keep their perfect ATS run going? Here are my NBA picks and predictions for Suns vs. 76ers on November 4.

Suns vs 76ers predictions

It feels like the 76ers are happy the James Harden saga is over with, so they can just get back to playing basketball — something they have been doing very well so far this season without Harden.

Generally, you would think that taking away a player like Harden would hurt your offense. But don’t tell that to the Sixers. Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are thriving in new head coach Nick Nurse’s system. The Sixers have transitioned from a pick-and-roll dominant offense to a more free-flowing dribble-handoff style. And the results have been great.

Philly ranks third in the NBA in offensive rating and eighth in effective field goal percentage. The Sixers are 3-1 straight up and 4-0 ATS on the season with the lone loss coming in the form of a one-point loss as 6-point underdogs at Milwaukee on opening night.

While it feels like a weight has been lifted off the Sixers’ shoulders, it looks like the star-studded Suns are still trying to figure out their rotations and what will work for them.

Phoenix enters this game having lost three of its last four games, including two in a row to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. While the overall numbers look fine for the Suns at the moment, this roster has some flaws, made even more obvious by the fact that Bradley Beal has yet to play a game for the Suns due to a back issue. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker are certainly carrying the load right now, but will need someone to step up and help out at some point.

The Suns aren’t moving the ball well at the moment, ranking 18th in assist rate and 28th in assist-to-turnover ratio. That’s not a great recipe for success vs. a Philly team that ranks eighth in defensive rating and seventh in steals per game.

The Suns could also have their hands full with Embiid. I mean, more than most. Phoenix is getting killed on the inside, ranking 24th in opponent points in the paint. Embiid should take Jusuf Nurkic’s lunch in this one.

Philly should also be getting some reinforcements from the Harden trade with Nicolas Batum and Robert Covington potentially ready to suit up. All this adds up to another Sixers cover. Phoenix will likely be in a much different spot than this later in the season, but for now, Philly is in better form and well-equipped to take advantage of the Suns’ deficiencies. Lay the points with the Sixers here.

My best bet: 76ers -4 (-110 at FanDuel)

Suns vs 76ers same-game parlay

76ers -4

Under 222

Embiid first basket

There aren’t a ton of SGP options available as of writing on Friday night, but let’s try to put something together fun anyway.

So, next, let’s add the Under 222. Philly ranks eighth in defensive rating and sixth in scoring defense while Phoenix ranks 11th in defensive rating and 14th in scoring defense. On top of that, both teams rank in the bottom half of the NBA in terms of pace and neither team takes a ton of shots. The Sixers and Suns rank 28th and 29th respectively in field goal attempts per game.

Like I said, no player props are posted yet but when they are, take a look at an Embiid point milestone prop to add on here. Embiid is averaging 30.3 points per game, and I really think he can have a big day in this matchup with Nurkic. But for now, let’s just bet that big day to start fast and score the game's first bucket. This three-legger will earn us a +1,397 ticket.

Suns vs 76ers spread and Over/Under analysis

The line for this matchup hit the board with the 76ers as 4-point home favorites. While the total hit the board at 222. As I broke down above, I’m laying the points with the Sixers and have a lean to the Under.

Philly is a perfect 4-0 ATS this season, while Phoenix has been a profitable 3-2 ATS. The teams have also played a combined 6-3 to the Over this season.

He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can’t be friends with you if you don’t appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
