Devin Booker's been lighting up opposing defenses this year, and the Jazz don't profile as a team to slow him down much. See why our NBA picks are backing more heat from the Suns swingman.

Latest NBA Picks

At some point, the three-headed monster of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal will all be on the floor and terrorizing defenses in the NBA.

It just likely won’t be Friday, when the Phoenix Suns visit the Utah Jazz, entering as a sturdy 5.5-point road favorite in the NBA odds.

With Beal’s wonky back listing him as doubtful, the Jazz will still have to contend with Book — listed as probable — and KD, who combined to light a very good Timberwolves team on fire last game.

There’s no doubt what bet I’m targeting with my free NBA picks for this November 17 Suns vs. Jazz matchup.

Suns vs Jazz predictions

So far this season, all Devin Booker has done is torch the opposition. It’s a small three-game sample, but he’s been lethal when on the court.

In the Suns' 133-115 romp over a Minnesota side that had won seven straight games, Booker was brilliant. He finished with a team-high 31 points on 12-for-22 shooting, along with four boards and five dimes.

That’s three straight games he’s cracked the 30-point plateau, and Wednesday’s seemed the easiest of the bunch, needing a tidy 26 minutes to get his.

While the Jazz come into this contest winners of two in a row, the Utah defense isn’t exactly built for this at the moment.

Their 115-99 win over the Trail Blazers last game was the first time they’d held an opponent under 100 points this season, and just the second time all year an opponent has gone sub-110 points against Utah.

Overall, they’re fifth-worst in points allowed, surrendering 119.5 points per game. Utah’s field-goal defense is a grim 48.5%, seventh-worst in the Association.

To put that into context, that number means any team they face turns into the Lakers (48.6%) or 76ers (48.4%), who rank Nos. 4-5 in field goal shooting this season.

Assuming he is good to go, only an in-game injury (gulp) could derail this wager.

My best bet: Devin Booker Over 28.5 points (-110 at DraftKings)

Let’s stick with Booker as we build our three-leg same-game parlay.

He’s been hitting from distance at a 45.5% clip, though he has attempted just 22 shots from beyond the arc this season. Last game against the Timberwolves he went 2-for-7, the first time this year he had less than three triples in a game.

The Jazz don’t have a lot of great defensive metrics, but they are 12th in the NBA in 3-point shooting D, holding opponents to an average 35.1% mark.

In his last 10 against Utah, Booker has crossed this total twice, and he hasn’t gone Over 2.5 makes in four straight.

We’ll wrap this up with Booker’s fellow superstar. Kevin Durant just keeps on hooping. Against Minny, KD matched his All-Star teammate with his own 31 points on a crisp 11-for-15 shooting.

Again, the sample size is small, but this was the first time Durant went for 30+ alongside Booker in three games. He scored 28 in a 132-121 loss to the Spurs, and had his worst game of the season in the opener, shooting 7-for-22 for 18 points in a 108-104 win over the Warriors.

Durant has been brilliant in November, averaging 31.7 points on 51.4% from the field and 53.3% from downtown. He’s scored at least 28 points in six of seven November games.

I’m wary of his scoring, but the books have given him a low 1.5 total for 3-point makes, which he’s topped in four straight. That's where we'll post up.

Suns vs Jazz spread and Over/Under analysis

The Suns vs Jazz spread is all over the place. As of Thursday night, you could find Phoenix as high as a 5.5-point favorite, cascading down to as low as Suns -2.5.

Phoenix has been a solid bet on the road early this year, going 3-1-1 against the spread, tied with OKC for the top success rate in basketball.

Utah is a solid 3-2-0 ATS — one of 11 teams who have a 60% or better success rate at home against the spread.

The total started high, and has stayed high, settling mostly at 236.5 points, though it’s up a full point at several books.

These two teams have earned the high-water mark: 15 of their 22 games have cashed the Over.
