The 2023 SEC Tournament will tip off in Nashville on Wednesday night with the Mississippi Rebels taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks at Bridgestone Arena.
Mississippi finished the season at 11-20 overall and fired head coach Kermit Davis with three games left in the regular season. On the other side of the ball, South Carolina also won just 11 games and went 4-14 in conference play.

South Carolina vs Mississippi picks and predictions
After beating Temple on December 17, the Mississippi Rebels were sitting at 8-3. Since then, they have been a dreadful 3-17 including a loss to North Alabama.
Meanwhile, the South Carolina Gamecocks will be missing starter Chico Carter, who started 25 games and averaged 9.8 points and 30.8 minutes per game. Carter played in both regular season matchups and averaged 8.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 34.5 minutes per contest.
Both teams struggled offensively all year. The Rebels rank 278th in the nation with 67.9 ppg and 143rd in adjusted offensive efficiency per KenPom. South Carolina is even worse at 337th in the country with 64.5 ppg and ranks 203rd in adjusted offensive efficiency.
Neither program plays at a fast pace either, as South Carolina ranks 322nd in KenPom adjusted tempo, while Ole Miss comes in at 235th.
Both matchups this season went Under the given total of 129.5 and 133.5 in Mississippi, and South Carolina is only going to be even worse offensively without Carter.
Each offense should struggle early in this game. By the time both teams get used to shooting at the neutral site, it will be too late to cash the Over.
My best bet: Under 134.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

South Carolina vs Mississippi spread analysis
While both teams are 11-20 straight up, South Carolina has been much better against the spread than Mississippi. The Gamecocks are 17-14 ATS while the Rebels are 11-18-2 ATS. However, South Carolina is 0-4 SU this year in neutral site games and 4-7 in true road contests.
Meanwhile, Mississippi went 2-1 in neutral site games with wins over Stanford and Siena. The Rebels are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing straight up record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss. The Gamecocks are also 0-5 ATS in their last five neutral site games.
However, the underdog is 20-8 ATS in the last 28 meetings between these two programs. This game is a complete toss-up for me and will likely be close throughout. The final minutes will be entertaining if you like thrilling basketball finishes, but I'd be weary about picking a side on the spread as a bettor.
South Carolina vs Mississippi Over/Under analysis
While the Gamecocks hit shots at a 35.7% clip from 3-point range, Mississippi has a good 3-point defense and only allows 28.2% of its opponent's points to come from long range.
The Under is 4-1 in the Rebels' last five games against a team with a losing straight up record, and is also 4-1-1 in the Gamecocks' last six games overall.
South Carolina has also really shown its inability to score in neutral site games this season, averaging 57.3 points per game. I love the Under here in an ugly game.
