But when you start failing at your job and everyone begins wondering if you’re getting a little too comfortable in your chair, that soothing perch can quickly become a hot seat. Just ask Tom Herman.

The Texas head coach is in trouble, and he desperately needs a win against Baylor this weekend.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

Baylor has been battling COVID-19 and subsequent game cancellations for much of the season, which explains their 1-1 record. The Bears are led by tough-as-nails Charlie Brewer at quarterback, who has thrown for four touchdowns and two picks this season, but the star of the offense is running back Trestan Ebner. The senior tailback is dangerous both rushing and receiving, as evidenced by his three touchdowns in the team’s season-opening win 47-14 win against Kansas.

Sam Ehlinger has gone from Heisman hopeful to trying to keep the Longhorns above .500, though he’s still been impressive. The Texas signal-caller has tossed 16 touchdowns and only four picks this year, and his primary target, Joshua Moore, has found the end zone five times.

The Horns are coming off a crushing four-overtime loss at the hands of arch-rival Oklahoma and are the better team here--they almost always are when playing Baylor. However, motivation will be a problem for Texas with a head coach that is likely a lame duck and the conference title out of reach. The Bears are 7-3 ATS in their last ten against the Horns, and the money has been coming in on Baylor for good reason.

PREDICTION: Baylor +9.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

Here’s an interesting stat. The highest-scoring offense in the country is… Texas. The Horns drop an average of 49.5 points per contest, putting them just ahead of Alabama. The Longhorns also allow 36.3 points and 400.3 yards a game on defense, so there’s a potential for a shootout in almost every game on their schedule. The money has been hitting the Under, but the Over is 4-0 in Texas’ last four.

PREDICTION: Over 61.5 (-110)

Team Total Prop Pick

While Baylor Head Coach Dave Aranda continues to build the program in Waco, the Horns are forced to plow ahead despite rumors swirling that Urban Meyer could be the next head coach in Austin.

The Bears have a chance to pull an outright upset if Texas doesn’t come out motivated. At the very least, Baylor should be able to score some points and turn up the temperature on the Tom Herman Hot Seat.

PREDICTION: Baylor team total Over 24.5 (+100)
