The most underreported part of last weekend’s college football Saturday was Dan Mullen showing up at his postgame press conference dressed as Darth Vader. If you somehow put some college football betting money on the Florida Head Coach embracing the dark side of the Force, you probably made some serious cash.
I’m not sure Georgia’s Kirby Smart represents any character in the Star Wars universe, but since his starting quarterback Stetson Bennet is only 5-11, let’s just pretend he’s Yoda, because when the Galactic Empire battles the Rebel Alliance, they always meet in Jacksonville.
Here are our best college football free picks and predictions for No. 8 Florida at No. 5 Georgia, scheduled for Saturday, November 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET at TIAA Bank Field.
Florida Gators at Georgia Bulldogs Betting Preview
Weather
It’s going to be mostly cloudy with a high of 80 degrees and wind out of the east at 8 mph this weekend. There’s also 30 percent chance of rain and a zero percent chance that I ever land a writing job for any Star Wars series. Against the Spread (ATS) Pick
The three-week layoff for the Gators proved to have zero effect on their performance, as Florida whipped up on Missouri 41-17 and even managed to start a brawl with the Tigers just before halftime. For his part, Mullen was fined $25,000, and both defensive lineman Zach Carter and linebacker Antwuan Powell will have to sit out the first half of Saturday’s game. That ugly scene managed to overshadow quarterback Kyle Trask’s four touchdowns on 345 yards passing.
There wasn’t much of a fight put up by anyone last week in Lexington, where the Bulldogs left town after an uninspiring 14-3 victory over Kentucky. Georgia’s trademark defense held the Wildcats to only 229 yards, though an ineffective Bennett (131 yards, two picks) leaned on Zamir White’s 136 yards rushing to pace the Dawgs offense.
Georgia has the front seven to harass Trask into making mistakes in this game, but the Bulldogs will be without starters Jordan Davis and Julian Rochester on the defensive line. That means Georgia will need to score some points to keep up, and while Yoda is a master at levitating an X-wing, he needs to prove he can also throw a football.
PREDICTION: Florida +3.5 (-110)
Over/Under Pick
Florida has had issues on defense for much of the season, though the Gators seemed to have rectified some of those problems in their game against Mizzou. The Dawgs are even better, but they also gave up 41 points to Alabama and are missing some key pieces, which is why money is hitting the Over.
PREDICTION: Over 54 (-110)
Team Total Pick
The Kyle Trask to Kyle Pitts connection has been good for 355 yards and seven touchdowns alone this year, and the Gators sport five wideouts who have at least 100 yards receiving.
So, my money is on the Florida offense striking often and as effectively as the lightning that that shoots from the hands of Emperor Palpatine. I’ll see myself out now.
PREDICTION: Florida team total Over 24.5 (+100)
Florida vs Georgia Betting Card
