The Kansas Jayhawks earned a 17-14 win over the South Dakota Coyotes last week. That means the Jayhawks have the rest of the season to win one more game and hit the Over on their regular-season win total of 1.5.
This week, Kansas takes on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Friday, September 10, when head coach Jamey Chadwell’s team will be looking to make a statement.

Kansas vs Coastal Carolina predictions
Kansas +25.5 (-110)
For as good as Coastal Carolina was a year ago, the team only beat Kansas by 15 points when these two met on September 12, 2020. That was a Jayhawks team that went on to go 0-9 for the year. This group might not be a lot more talented than that one, but it’s in a much better position as far as the coaching staff goes. Les Miles was an absolute disaster in his time with Kansas, and the team replaced him with Lance Leipold, who consistently did more with less with both Wisconsin-Whitewater and Buffalo.
Sure, last week’s win over South Dakota wasn’t pretty, but it’s one more win than Kansas had all of last year and it only took one week to do it. Defensively, the Jayhawks looked solid, allowing only 14 points on 263 total yards. This is a major step up in competition, but it was nice to see Kansas’ secondary hold up. It helps provide hope that this Jayhawks secondary might be able to come up with a few timely stops against Grayson McCall and an explosive Chanticleers offense.
Coastal Carolina is 1-3 against the spread in home games with a total between 49.5 and 56 points since Chadwell took over, and this matchup doesn’t exactly lend itself well for a massive blowout. While the Chants should be able to win comfortably, it’s worth noting that The Citadel ran for 223 yards on 4.1 yards per carry against them last week. Meanwhile, Kansas ran the ball 41 times against South Dakota last week, and the team should be able to find a little success on the ground in this one. Jason Bean looks promising as a dual-threat option at quarterback, and his legs will be a factor.
That might not mean a lot of points for the Jayhawks, but it should mean a lot of minutes used up on the clock. Keeping the Chanticleers offense off the field will make it easy on Leipold’s group to come away with a cover.
Under 52 (-110)
Last week, the Jayhawks played a game that saw only 31 total points on the scoreboard when it was all over. This week, Kansas runs into an offense that is far more explosive, as Coastal Carolina put up 52 in its season opener. However, the fact that the Jayhawks prefer to run the ball means that this clock will move, and they’ll find some opportunities to control the time of possession. As mentioned earlier, that likely won’t result in a lot of point for the Jayhawks, but it should also prevent the Chanticleers from putting up too many.
Also, for what it’s worth, the Under has hit in four of the seven games in which Coastal Carolina has played as a home favorite under Chadwell. Meanwhile, the Under is 4-1 in the last five games that Kansas has played when coming off a straight-up win. On top of that, the sharp money appears to be on the Under, even if it is a bit early.
