Get set for an exciting Sun Belt Conference Championship matchup when the Marshall Thundering Herd meets the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

Both defenses have weaknesses, and my Marshall vs. Louisiana prop picks are targeting those struggles in unconventional ways.

Read on as I explain my college football picks for Saturday, December 7.

Marshall vs Louisiana college football player props

Prop bet #1: Braylon Braxton Under 57.5 rushing yards

-115 at BetMGM

Marshall Thundering Herd junior quarterback Braylon Braxton has been an exceptional addition this season.

Braxton does a bit of everything for Marshall. The dual-threat QB has thrown for 1,431 passing yards with 19 scoring strikes and scampered for an additional 544 rushing yards on 118 carries.

The Thundering Herd signal-caller may be forced to throw the ball more often on Saturday. The Louisana Ragin’ Cajuns are -6 point favorites, and Braxton may not enjoy the same rushing chances as he typically does.

Even if Braxton opts to use his feet, he will run into a brick wall. Louisiana allows only 152 rushing yards per game, making life difficult for any Marshall rusher.

Braxton has scampered for more than 58+ rushing yards twice in his last five games. The Cajuns don’t apply much pressure on quarterbacks, and I suspect the additional time to throw will limit his rushing attempts. My Marshall vs. Louisiana predictions say he will end under his rushing yards total.

Prop bet #2: Chandler Fields Under 1.5 touchdown passes

+110 at BetMGM

Louisiana senior quarterback Chandler Fields can sling the football. Fields has fired two scoring strikes in each of his starts since taking over the starting role on November 23.

As good as Fields has been in relief, I don’t believe he’ll sling two scoring strikes against this Marshall defense.

The Thundering Herd secondary is stout. They allow 198 passing yards per game and only 15 touchdown receptions across 350 passing attempts. The Herd's defense is also aggressive. Marshall has intercepted a dozen passes, and the aggressive defense could cause some miscues from Fields.

The Herd stop unit is especially tough on quarterbacks as the field gets shorter. Marshall has allowed only eight passing touchdowns in the red zone, which may make it difficult for Fields to throw more than two scoring strikes.

Marshall doesn’t defend the rush very well, and I believe Louisana will find enough success rushing the football that Fields won’t have to sling two scoring strikes.

Prop bet #3: Elijah Davis anytime touchdown

-200 at BetMGM

Louisiana red-shirt frosh running back Elijah “Bill” Davis is one rushing touchdown shy of becoming their first back since 2019 to score 10 rushing touchdowns or more. Davis has a good chance to score on Saturday.

Marshall has surrendered 21 rushing touchdowns this season, and 16 of those inside the red zone.

Davis is currently in a timeshare with Zylan Perry. Perry is coming off a huge 150-yard rushing day with a pair of touchdowns, yet Davis still received 17 carries and scored one rushing touchdown.

We’re paying serious juice for a prop bet, but I believe if Louisiana gets close to the goal line, the Ragin’ Cajuns will call the young man's number and let him get to 10 touchdowns.

The Herd haven’t stopped many rushers at the goal line this season. Davis should get his chances, and if he does, he’ll find his way into the house.
