The Michigan State Spartans aim to bounce back after last week’s deflating loss to Purdue that busted them out of the Top 4 in the College Football Playoff Rankings.
The Maryland Terrapins won’t be an easy out either, as they’re looking for one more win to become bowl eligible. Still, Maryland has dropped four of its last five and has struggled in general throughout the last couple of months.
Michigan State will want a huge multiple-possession win against Maryland, but can they deliver? Read our picks and predictions between the Maryland Terrapins and Michigan State Spartans for Saturday, November 13.

Maryland vs Michigan State predictions
Michigan State -12.5 (-110)
Michigan State’s defense just didn’t come to play last week against Purdue. After a two-possession loss, 40-29, the College Football Playoff Committee went as far as putting the Michigan Wolverines in front of Michigan State, despite MSU beating them the previous week. There’s outrage with that, but all Michigan State can do is prove that they belong right in the conversation.
In the Purdue game, Michigan State was just a 2.5-point favorite despite being undefeated. Oddsmakers were telling us something.
This week, they’re telling us that Michigan State should bounce back and defeat Maryland. I agree with this.
Michigan State should be able to score at will against a Maryland defense that has allowed over 30 points and 400 yards per game. The Terrapins have allowed 153.4 yards per game on the ground and will more than likely struggle against Kenneth Walker III and the Michigan run game in this one.
Meanwhile, the secondary isn’t all that great for Maryland either, allowing 255 yards per game. With a solid offensive line, Michigan State will be able to get whatever they want on the offensive end behind quarterback Payton Thorne.
On the other hand, Maryland’s offense has been solid. While it’s not near what Michigan State is, the Terrapins have scored 27.6 points per game while averaging just under 430 yards.
Michigan State gets a lot of love on the defensive end and while the D-line is extremely elite, the tackling has been poor and the coverage can be beaten. All in all, the Spartans allow 443.4 yards per game on the defensive end.
But Michigan State will be able to get some stops with their defensive line. Maryland won’t.
Over 60.5 (-110)
Maryland’s going to have lots of trouble trying to stop this Michigan State offense. With little pressure, terrible rushing defense, and a coverage unit that has been beaten countless times, you can expect plenty of points.
Meanwhile, Maryland’s offense deserves some credit too. The defense is miserable but the offense averages nearly four touchdowns a game. If Maryland gets their yards, they’ll score a bit too. It won’t be enough to cover against Michigan State, but with both teams averaging over 425 yards on offense and both defenses giving up over 400 yards, I like the Over in this matchup.
