Mississippi vs Auburn Odds, Picks, and Predictions: Rebels Rumble Through Tigers

Auburn has had very little luck against SEC opponents and is coming off a spanking at the hands of LSU. With the Mississippi Rebels in town and their offense clicking, our college football picks have the visitors covering the touchdown spread.

Another week in October means another week with a big SEC West rivalry. The Mississippi Rebels look to remain in the hunt for the SEC West title as they head to Auburn to take on the Auburn Tigers.

The Rebels are coming off a bye week after two big home wins over LSU and Arkansas while the Tigers have lost three consecutive games to start their SEC schedule. Will the visitors continue their hot streak, or will Auburn finally end its losing skid and cover the spread set by college football odds?

Here are my free college football picks for Mississippi vs. Auburn on Saturday, October 21.

Mississippi vs Auburn picks and predictions

The Mississippi Rebels beat the Tigers 48-34 at home last year where three separate Rebels racked up over 100 rushing yards. Two of those players are back this season: running back Quinshon Judkins and quarterback Jaxson Dart — who also had three TD passes despite just nine completions.

This season, Dart has been much better through the air with 1,638 yards and 12 TD passes to only two interceptions. The Auburn Tigers pass defense had been solid all season — 49th in the country in yards allowed per game — but just allowed Jayden Daniels to go 20-for-27 passing for 325 yards and three touchdowns.

Even if the defense does improve against Dart, Auburn has some serious issues on the offensive side of the ball (120th in the country in ypg).

The Tigers also rank 109th in third down conversion (33.3%), 106th in first downs gained (114), 106th in yards per completion (10.9), and 102nd in tackles for loss allowed per game (6.8). While the Rebels defense has its own issues, it is extremely aggressive and gets into the opponent's backfield.

Mississippi has 22 sacks on the season and averages 7.8 tackles for loss per game (ninth) while Auburn has allowed its quarterback to be sacked 17 times already this season. When the Tigers have the ball, they're going to have several negative plays, which will make it extremely difficult for them to keep up with the Mississippi offense.

I understand the Tigers have shown they can compete with the top teams in the SEC at home by playing Georgia to a 27-20 final score. However, that game looks a little more like a fluke than anything else when you look at their other two SEC games this season. The Rebels may not do what LSU did to Auburn last week, but they'll get this road win and cover the spread.

My best bet: Mississippi -6.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Mississippi vs Auburn same-game parlay

Mississippi -6.5

Mississippi TT Over 27.5

Judkins 2+ TDs

Auburn has allowed at least 27 points to every SEC opponent it has faced faced this season, and the Rebels have scored at least 27 points in every game this season except against Alabama. I think it is very safe to add Over 27.5 points for Mississippi on the team total.

Finally, I will be looking at a multiple-touchdown scorer for Miss. Judkins had three TDs last year in this matchup and has seven total tuddies this season. Whether it's on the ground or through the air, I really like Judkins to find the pay dirt at least twice in this game.

Mississippi vs Auburn spread and Over/Under analysis

Another reason to love the Rebels in this game is their ability to win the turnover battle. They rank 11th in the country with a +6 turnover margin. They have four fumble recoveries and five interceptions with only one lost fumble and two interceptions. Meanwhile, Auburn has lost four fumbles and thrown four interceptions this season.

This total of 56.5 is a bit too much of a coin toss for my liking. The Rebels are not quite consistent enough for me to take the Over. However, the Auburn defense has shown vulnerability and I feel like I would be playing with fire to take the Under against Lane Kiffin.
