The Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Arizona State Sun Devils met last season in Stillwater, and Oklahoma State came out on top with a 34-17 victory. A new roster at Arizona State will try to turn the tables on Saturday.
The Sun Devils will get a second start from their star freshman quarterback, while the Cowboys will still be looking to find their main guy behind center. Will Arizona State be able to cover the 3.5-point spread in the college football odds at home?

Oklahoma State vs Arizona State picks and predictions
It was a slightly disappointing season for the Oklahoma State Cowboys last year, and for the older roster that they were bringing back from their previous 12-2 team. Oklahoma State went 7-6, scoring 30.6 points per game (ranked 49th nationally) and allowing 28.9 points (89th).
However, the Cowboys lost their starting quarterback, leading rusher, five of their Top 6 receivers, and two starters on the offensive line. On defense, they lost their Top 3 leading defenders in tackles and tackles for loss. Their biggest loss was safety Jason Taylor II, who had 99 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and six interceptions.
OSU did not have a great recruiting class — 10th in the Big 12 and 58th nationally, according to On3 Recruiting. However, it did bring in some decent transfers on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Alan Bowman from Michigan (via Texas Tech) had 1,602 passing yards in 2020 for the Red Raiders.
The Cowboys played three quarterbacks practically equal time in their 27-13 win over Central Arkansas last weekend. Garret Rangel got the start and finished with the best stats, but he did throw an interception in the opening drive. The defense had its moments with five sacks and a fumble recovery, but it did allow 391 total yards.
The Arizona State Sun Devils are looking for a clean start with Kenny Dillingham taking over a program that has banned itself from bowl consideration this season due to infractions from the previous regime. He is taking over a team that went 3-9 last year and averaged 26.1 ppg (79th) and allowed 31.4 ppg (107th). They also lost 16 of their Top 27 players on both sides of the ball.
However, they are bringing in one of the top recruits in the nation at quarterback in Jaden Rashada. He was the sixth-ranked QB and 49th-ranked recruit in the 2023 class by On3. He threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns in his debut last week in a 24-21 win over Southern Utah. The Sun Devils also welcome in several transfers, including some of the best players from the FCS last season.
Running back Cameron Skattebo from Sacramento State had 17 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown last week. Wide receiver Xavier Guillory from Idaho State had five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. The final score was only close because they allowed a late blocked punt for a touchdown.
Arizona State will come out hot and Oklahoma State will still have questions at the quarterback position. Bowman is listed as the starter on the depth chart, but the dreaded “OR” is listed for each of the other two, so we will see who starts the game. Regardless, I like the Sun Devils to start with an early lead, and that will be my best bet of this game.
My best bet: Arizona State 1H +1.5 (-110 at FanDuel)
Oklahoma State vs Arizona State same-game parlay
The first half best bet here will combine well with some other options under the FanDuel same-game parlay option.
If the Sun Devils win the first half, it will likely be lower scoring. This means we should add the first half total of 27.5 points to our parlay. Both teams played lower-scoring games last week.
Finally, let’s look at the total game spread. I am not positive the Sun Devils will win, but I do like getting the hook on if they lose by a field goal. It should be a game that comes down to the final possession.

Oklahoma State vs Arizona State spread and Over/Under analysis
I included the full-game spread in my same game parlay, so I would obviously recommend taking Arizona State here.
Both teams played relatively clean games last week and there will likely not be many opportunities for turnovers and big plays from the defense that lead to easy points. This will favor the Sun Devils at home with more stability at the quarterback position.
Because it will be a clean game, I would also suggest taking the Under. Last season, the Cowboys offense was much better, and the Sun Devils defense was much worse, yet there were only 51 points scored.
This go around, the total has risen to 55.5 points despite only 40 points being scored in the OSU game last week, and only 45 points in the ASU game. And both of those games were against FCS opponents. This should be relatively low-scoring.
