Oklahoma State vs Iowa State predictions

Oklahoma State is coming off a huge victory over Texas last week, and the Cowboys probably aren’t getting enough respect for an undefeated team at the moment. However, the Cyclones are playing some really good football over the last month of the season, and they present some real challenges for Mike Gundy’s team.

Since Matt Campbell took over as the head coach of Iowa State, the Cyclones are 8-3 SU and 10-1 ATS when playing at home in the month of October — and 18-3 ATS in October games overall in that time. They’re also 13-4 SU and 11-6 ATS when playing as a favorite of between 3.5 and 10 points in that span.

Iowa State also happens to be allowing fewer than 100 rushing yards per game this season, which is especially important when factoring in who they’re playing in this one. Cowboys running back Jaylen Warren rushed for 193 yards on 33 carries in last week’s win over Texas. Dominating on the ground like that was the reason Oklahoma State was able to win that game, but Warren is going to have a rough night against this Iowa State front. Considering quarterback Spencer Sanders isn’t anything special as a passer, that’s going to make putting up points a tough ask for this Cowboys team.

As for the Cyclones offense, things have been going much better in the passing game as of late. After a miserable start to the year, Brock Purdy has now thrown for nine touchdowns and just one interception over the last four games. He seems to have his confidence back and it’s making life on star running back Breece Hall a lot easier. Over the last four weeks, Hall is averaging 152.5 rushing yards per game. He has also scored two touchdowns in each of those four contests.

With the Cyclones finally clicking on both sides of the ball, look for them to deal the Cowboys their first loss of the season. And don’t be surprised if they do so rather comfortably.

The Over has hit in each of Iowa State’s last three games, and they now play a game with an extremely low number. While Oklahoma State could struggle to score enough points to hang around in this one, the Cowboys aren’t going to be completely blanked. They’re simply too talented for that. Meanwhile, Iowa State is averaging 42.3 points per game over the last four weeks, which shows you that this Cyclones team is capable of carrying Over bettors to the promised land.

It’s also worth noting that the Over is 8-3 when Oklahoma State is coming off a game in which the team won as a road underdog under Gundy. It’s also 9-4 when the Cowboys have faced teams that allow at most 285 yards per game in that time, showing that Gundy has generally been able to produce a solid offensive game plan against good defenses.
