Oklahoma vs TCU Odds, Picks and Predictions: Sooners Stumble Once Again

The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off an unbelievable upset loss to Kansas State and will be looking for a rebound against TCU. However, the Horned Frogs aren't going to lie down. In fact, we're eyeing the value on the home team moneyline at plus money.

After crushing their three first opponents, the then-No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners ran into the unranked Kansas State Wildcats, shockingly losing 41-34.

Now Oklahoma has to travel to Fort Worth to take on the pesky — and undefeated — Texas Christian Horned Frogs.

Oklahoma vs TCU picks and predictions

Like many previous Oklahoma teams, this one is defensively challenged. The Sooners hosted Kansas State and watched helplessly as the Wildcats walked out of Norman with a 41-34 victory.

That dropped their already sketchy defense to No. 62 in the nation. The Sooners are allowing 361.8 yards per game. Remember, these games were against the likes of Kent State, UTEP, and Nebraska. Not exactly offensive powerhouses in 2022.

Nothing indicates they are going to have any success against quarterback Max Duggan.

Backup QB Chad Morris is questionable because of a knee injury but coach Sonny Dykes has said he should play.

Morris is the more mobile of the two and should be used in certain wildcat situations. Duggan is the more accurate passer, sporting a 77% completion rate, and has thrown for 695 yards and eight touchdowns to no interceptions.

There is a host of receivers Duggan can target. Three of them, Derius Davis, Jordan Hudson, and Taye Barber, all have 100 or more yards in receiving. The team also has 12 receivers with an average of 10 or more yards per catch.

The Horned Frogs also have a solid running attack. Kendre Miller has 38 carries for 250 yards, good for 6.6 yards per carry.

Oklahoma should be able to keep up with TCU offensively, if not set the pace. They are led by Dillon Gabriel, who has gone 78 of 117 for 1,089 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception.

Like the Sooners, the Horned Frogs defense is nothing to get excited about. They rank 68th in total defense, allowing 373 yards a game.

This should be a back-and-forth affair with lots of points on the board. Ultimately, though, I believe the home crowd will help the Horned Frogs get the upset.

Oklahoma vs TCU spread analysis

The trends all suggest Oklahoma should cover but they couldn’t against an unranked Kansas team, losing outright. Now they play another team that probably should be ranked and have a hefty 6.5-point margin.

Oklahoma is ranked seventh in the country in total offense, averaging 513 yards a game.

The Sooners did get their yards against a quality Kansas State team, piling up 330 yards through the air and another 220 on the ground.

They lost, however, because the defense couldn’t stop the Wildcats. Kansas State tagged them for 41 points on 234 yards passing and another 277 yards rushing.

TCU should be able to do the same. They have a very competent quarterback in Duggan and a dangerous group of receivers. The running game is led by Miller, who should be able to get yards against an Oklahoma run defense ranked 86th and is allowing an average of 157.5 yards per game.

The number of 6.5 should attract some money on Oklahoma and if the line goes to seven, jump on TCU.

Oklahoma vs TCU Over/Under analysis

Defense is a dirty word with Oklahoma and TCU. Both teams score seemingly at will and aren’t that concerned about stopping their opponent.

The total opened at 67.5 and went up a point at most sportsbooks.

TCU has allowed 21.3 points a game, though they had the benefit of playing Colorado and Tarleton State. They held Colorado, one of the worse teams in the Pac-12 to 13. They allowed FCS Tarleton State 17.

When the Horned Frogs played SMU, they won but struggled, letting the Mustangs post 34 points.

Even though Oklahoma’s defense is ranked higher, Duggan is going to get his yards.

For TCU, the Over 5-0 in their last five games following an ATS win and is 8-0 in their last eight following a straight-up victory.

For Oklahoma, the Over is 7-2 in its last nine games against a team with a winning record and 6-1 in their last seven after allowing more than 200 yards rushing the previous game.
