There’s an expression that football fans in the Big 12 often express to one another: “Weird things happen in Lubbock.” Texas Tech may not be a football powerhouse, but the Red Raiders make a regular appearance on the national radar and often find ways to surprise us, which makes college football betting on Tech a heckuva ride.

The Red Raiders are only 2-3 this season, so they’ll need more than just a little West Texas magic to pull off an upset over a Sooners squad that looks to have righted the ship.

Let’s check out our best college football free picks and predictions for No. 24 Oklahoma at Texas Tech, with the game set to begin on Saturday, October 31 at 8:00 ET.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

The Red Raiders made a change at quarterback last week, going with Henry Colombi instead of Alan Bowman. The redshirt junior originally played for Tech Head Coach Matt Wells at Utah State, and the two reunited over the summer in Lubbock. Colombi responded by throwing for 169 yards and a touchdown in a 34-27 win against West Virginia, ending the Red Raiders’ three-game losing skid.

The Sooner faithful have calmed down a bit now that Oklahoma has responded to their two-game losing streak with back-to-back wins over Texas and TCU. Spencer Rattler continues to show why he was such a coveted high-school recruit, as the freshman quarterback has tossed 13 touchdowns and five interceptions this year while already racking up 1,186 yards in the air.

Colombi’s victory in his first start for Texas Tech is a nice story, but the Red Raiders defense gave up 438 yards to a bad Mountaineers offense, so Oklahoma might be able to score at will.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma -14.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

While Texas Tech got some surprisingly strong defensive play against West Virginia last week, much of that success has to do with the Mountaineers and their ineptitude in moving the football. Conversely, the Sooners have scored at least 30 points in every contest this season, and the Over is 8-1 in the last nine games in this series.

PREDICTION: Over 66.5 (-110)

Team total pick

As with most freshmen, Rattler is getting more comfortable each week and the Sooners have dropped 86 points combined in their last two games. Putting up 33 points against Gary Patterson’s TCU bunch is no easy task, so Rattler should have plenty of opportunities against a Tech defense ranked 89th in the nation.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma team total Over 41.5 (-103)
